Free Storage Containers

Shoe Boxes, Storage Boxes, Storage Containers

Many families are financially stressed. When financial stress strikes one of the first things to do is to cut out all of the extras. Anything that is not absolutely necessary often just is not purchased. Doing this is not always easy, but it can make it so that the families needs are met.

Not being able to spend money on the extras often means going without them. However, sometimes it does not. So many things can be made from ordinary every day items. This includes containers. Whatever your storage need there is surely a way to make your container for free, using what you already have around your home.

Let’s start off with the small containers. Did you know that every can in your recycling bin has the potential to become a unique holder for pens, pencils, colored pencils, or markers? All you need to do to make one is choose a can the right size and peel the label from it. Make sure it is clean and dry. Use undecorated and enjoy the shiny silver look, or decorate with wrapping paper or fabric. Simply glue it on. These are great for offices, and for children.

Small items like beads, paper clips, etc. also need a container. To make a container to hold small items such as these use a small card board box. You could cut the bottom half of a pasta box off and then decorate it with paper or fabric.

Plastic drink mix containers are commonly found in the recycling bins of families. These can also be used as great storage for tiny items. These are one step better than a box because they have a secure screw on lid. Again, fabric or decorative paper can be glued onto them as decoration.

Shoe boxes can also be decorated and turned into storage boxes. These are great because they have tops. Instead of throwing your children’s shoe boxes away turn them into storage boxes for organizing smaller toys. The smaller toys need containers anyway because all too often they get lost in larger toy boxes.

Shoe boxes are also great for storing cards, pictures, memorable items, and papers. Collect all of the old shoe boxes out of the closets of your home and make a bunch. You’ll be organized in no time flat and will also have gained a decorative collection of storage boxes. The sky is the limit when it comes to decorating ideas and options.

Larger cardboard boxes work really well for toy boxes. Decorate them, or even paint them. Spray paint works great on all types of cardboard and plastic. If your children are in desperate need of more toy boxes and you just don’t have the money for them simply go to your local grocery store and ask for some boxes. They are always free. The stores recycle the various sized boxes that the foods are shipped in. Take them home and decorate them in a way that matches your child’s room décor and there you have it, free toy boxes.

Boxes that are even larger yet can be turned into storage containers too. Store anything from Christmas decorations in them, to out of season clothing. Another unique idea is to make large and deep cardboard boxes into clothes hampers. You can have a hamper in every room that needs one for no cost. The options truly are endless.
