Flash Cards, Flashcards, Music Theory

Are you looking for an easy and fun way to teach your child music notes? If so, I have found some great sites. I have a 7 year old son who has been taking piano lessons for about 9 months now. He is doing quite well. The thing he struggles with most is remembering the musical note names. He can look at his music and can recognize the notes on the piano, but he sometimes forgets the names of each note.

We have used free printable practice worksheets, which do help him to memorize the notes to some degree. We have also used tools from various websites which also help him. Unfortunatly, some of these websites lose his interest because they are geared more towards adults than children and they are more of a chore than fun.

I know the goal is for our children to eventually get to the point where they know the names of each music note INSTANTLY, without any conscious thought process of any kind. In order to do that it is very important for them to practice the musical note names. I know the more children work on them, the more they will remember, and the faster they will learn to play new songs assigned to them by their piano teacher. The challenge of course, is making it fun and interesting so they will want to learn and will retain it..

In my hunt I have found it mportant to find hands on educational tools in teaching my son. He really likes the printable flashcards as well as doing the fun flashcard drills on-line! Both are very helpful and give a great variety to children to keep it fresh and entertaining for them. They, in turn, will want to keep learning and will grow in their ability to play music.
