I will explain in detail the easy process to create free ringtones for your IPhone in the following steps.

Creating free IPhone ringtones

  • 1. Open ITunes, and connect your phone via USB to your computer.
  • 2. In your music library, choose the song you would like to create a ringtone from.
  • 3. Listen to the song, find a part of the song you like (the chorus is a good choice)
  • 4. Write down the start and stop times of the piece of music you want.
  • 5. Right click the song; choose the option “Get info”.
  • 6. When the box comes up, click on the Options tab.
  • 7. Enter the start and stop times in the boxes provided.
  • 8. Click OK
  • 9. Right click on song again and then click on “Create AAC Version”.

After you click “Create AAC Version” ITunes will snip out the selection you chose, and create a new “song” Just under the song you chose.

  • 10. Right click on the “song” that was just created, and choose “Show in Windows Explorer”
  • 11. When the window comes up click on the Organize tab in the top left corner, then click on the “Folder and Search Options”, next click on the view tab and scroll down until you see a selection titled “Hide extensions for known file types”. Make sure that this option is NOT checked. If it is, uncheck it now.
  • 12. Right click on the snippet of the song you chose, and then click on “Rename”
  • 13. The file will be in this format “example.m4a”. Change the .m4a to .m4r and hit enter.
  • 14. A window will pop up saying “If you change the file name extension, the file might become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?” Click yes.
  • 15. Leave the Windows Explorer window open and return to ITunes.
  • 16. Right click on the snippet, and select Delete, and confirm deletion. (If a window opens asking about deleting files click on “Keep file”.)
  • 17. Return to the Windows Explorer window and double click on the snippet.
  • 18. ITunes will automatically add the snippet to the “tones” folder, or, if you didn’t have a tones folder it will create one and then add it.
  • 19. Now sync your new tone to your IPhone.
