Fin and Feather in Groton, Connecticut Offers Great Pets like Dogs, Lizards, and Fish

German Shepard, Groton, Pet Snakes, Pet Stores, Playpens

While big pet stores like Petsmart and Pet Co. continue to open in the Eastern Connecticut region, the independent store Fin and Feathers remains open for over 39 years. Offering a personal friendly atmosphere and interactivness with most of their pets, Fin and Feather in Groton, Connecticut is one of the best pet stores in Eastern Connecticut.

Located next to Benny’s in the Groton Shopping Plaza, Fin and Feathers may look small on the outside, but upon entering the store opens up to three huge sections. The first section, on the far right, may be the most popular because it is the puppy section. About sixteen small kennels with see-through glass sit up against the wall, with a constantly changing selection of puppies. From the small poodle to the large German Shepard, there is always a wide variety. The nice thing about Fin and Feather is that if you see a puppy you like, you can play and bond with it in one of their four playpens. The store takes special treatment of these pens too, having customers fill out information and use Germ-X before and after playing with the puppy. This is smart for both the puppies and the people playing with them.

The next section in the middle of the store is the aquatic section. Dozens of fish tanks sit on shelves and there are a lot of different species. From clown fish like in Disney’s Finding Nemo to ten cent guppies, almost any kind is available. Fin and Feathers also offers a lot of different fish accessories like tanks, decorations, and food. One visit to the store and you could have your own aquatic set up.

After leaving the fish section you will immediately come upon a giant iguana tank. It used to be inhabited by two huge iguanas, but now one giant lizard named Thor resides there. As big as Thorn is, iguanas actually grow bigger, reaching the size of a couch in some cases. It is nice to come in and see Thor’s growth and while he is friendly, younger children may be frightened by him.

Passing the iguana cage, he sound of birds can be heard. Fin and Feather sells clipped winged Parakeets. They come in bright vibrant, beautiful colors and usually can fit in the palm of your hand.

Right past the bird sanctuary are rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, weasels, and even chinchillas. The rabbits can be petted and offered at many reasonable prices. The hamsters and gerbils have all gone on clearance recently and would be a great pet for a young child.

Lizards and snakes fill the last section of the store, all in glass cases for people to admire but not touch. There are a wide range of lizards including small iguanas, geckos, and dragon lizards. One of the most popular pet snakes is the corn snake, and while a little pricey here, they always have a lot of them in stock.

Fin and Feather offers everything you need to buy and house an animal, and offers a more personal experience compared to other pet stores. This is a fun store for people of all ages to visit, and especially kids because they will love interacting with all of the different animals.
