Farmers Markets in Dayton, Ohio

Dayton Ohio, farmer's markets, Feeding Your Family, Local Farmers Markets

Local farmers markets bring visions of fresh bright fruits and vegetables lying out on tables and in baskets as you saunter past and select the organic healthy produce for your family. I love a Saturday morning at the farmers market where I can select cucumbers, potatoes, apples, peppers and other produce and I can leisurely plan the meals for the week in my head.

It’s a great benefit to have a local Farmer’s Market. It makes getting really healthy produce simple and convenient and you know that you are feeding your family with ingredients that have never known pesticides or other chemicals. The taste of the fresh fruits and vegetables from the Farmer’s Market far surpasses that found in groceries.

It also helps the local economy to support the local growers at the Farmer’s Market. It’s known that family farms in America are struggling and these Farmer’s Markets give them another way to try to survive in these trying times.

In my local area in Dayton, Ohio I am surrounded by great Farmer’s Markets and I look forward each year for them to open so I can once again get such great fresh produce.

Dayton, Ohio Farmer’s Market #1

I live just south of Dayton in Springboro, Ohio and just twenty five minutes from me is the West Chester Farmers Market at 6370 South Mason Montgomery Road in Mason, Ohio. It is open from July through October on Saturdays and the hours are from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. They have great plums, sweet and juicy. Also peppers, peppers, zucchini, sweet peas, cantaloupe, large watermelon, onions, tomatoes and lots of other produce. They also have fresh herbs like basil that I love to make pesto with.

I work in downtown Dayton, Ohio and am lucky enough to have a year-round farmer’s market just two blocks from where I work. The National City 2nd Street Public Market is located at 600 East 2nd Street in Dayton, Ohio. It is open to the general public on Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 3 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. This lovely market is filled with all kinds of fresh vegetables for cooking. I love the cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, peas, onions and carrots. The lettuce, tomatoes and radishes are great for salads.

Dayton, Ohio Farmer’s Market #3

Windmill Farm Market is closest to me, just seven minutes away and is located in Springboro, Ohio at 1454 East State Route 73. They are open early April through late October on Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. The fruit is excellent at this Farmer’s Market and I love it when the red and black raspberries are in season, they are the best with vanilla ice cream for dessert. They also grow great broccoli, pears, peaches, strawberries and fresh apples for pie.

These are three of the best Farmer’s Markets near Dayton, Ohio. If you live near any one of them they are well worth the trip to enjoy the fresh fruits, vegetables and other goods they offer.
