Extra Magic Hours at Walt Disney World

Blizzard Beach, Magic Kingdom

Extra Magic Hours are Walt Disney World’s way of giving guests who stay at Disney Resorts a little extra something. Every day one of the Walt Disney World parks either opens one hour early or stays open up to three hours later so that guests who are staying at Walt Disney World resorts can enjoy short waits and their run of the parks before the general public is allowed in. Extra Magic Hours eliminate the admission gate rush, the long lines and allow you to make the most of your time at Walt Disney World.

Taking advantage of Extra Magic Hours does require a bit of planning but is well worth it. When planning to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, consider the ticket you have purchased or plan to purchase. If you intend to buy the basic Magic Your Way Ticket, you’ll want to be sure to spend your day at the particular park that will have Extra Magic Hours on that specific day.

Example: If you have a basic ticket without the park hopper option and decide to spend the day at the Magic Kingdom but Extra Magic Hours are at EPCOT after closing, you won’t be able to get into EPCOT because the basic ticket only allows you to visit one park per day. If you would like the flexibility of being able to visit more than one park per day then you’ll want to be sure to get the Park Hopper option with your park tickets.

If you don’t mind spending some time with your calendar, you can save a few dollars by avoiding the Park Hopper Option. Just take a few minutes to check to see when Extra Magic Hours will be offered during your stay at Walt Disney World and plan your park attendance accordingly.

If you plan on visiting the water parks at Walt Disney World, like Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, you should know that they offer Extra Magic Hours as well. Taking advantage of these Extra Magic Hours can provide more of a scheduling challenge. To take advantage of Extra Magic Hours at a water park you need to have a Walt Disney World Resort I.D. (they’ll issue you one when you check in to your hotel) and either the Water Park Fun & More Option on a Magic Your Way Ticket or a single day ticket for the water park offering the Extra Magic Hours that day.
