Escondido’s Semi Annual Street Fair on Grand Avenue

Living in Escondido, California there is something I always look forward to: the Escondido street fair located on Grand Avenue. There is one in the spring (May), and one in the fall (October). It’s one of the largest events in Escondido and includes something for everyone.

The Escondido Street Fair is like many other fairs: it includes food, music, rides, and small shops. Here are a few reasons why you should come!

On Grand

The Escondido Street Fair is hosted on Grand Avenue two Sundays a year. If you don’t know what’s so special about this, it’s that Grand Avenue is the heart of Escondido. Otherwise, it’s our small downtown location. Just for two days in the year, this street is closed off and the booths are set on the street. There are over one hundred of those booths, and even the regular shops are open (which are usually closed on the weekend).

Food!

They have a variety of foods. From your regular burgers to your polish sausages. They have some old favorites too like kettle corn, ice cream, and those bad, yet oh so good funnel cakes! There are companies who travel all the way to the fair to promote their goods and give free samples to those who are interested. And speaking of free, sometimes they just give away free pops!

The booths

These are my favorites. They have booth dedicated to jewelry, dresses, pieces of art, and even dog accessories. Some other random things they sell are Chinese umbrellas, garden décor, small home appliances, and basically anything that has been seen on TV! They do not all sell goods, some promote their business. Some hand out coupons for free Karate lessons or promote specials on cell phone service.

Rides

Though few, there are some rides! They have the mini-roller coaster for the younger kids (or older, who cares?). And they have the round up-that ride that you stand up on and spins in different directions. If you’ve never been on one, don’t worry; it’s force is strong enough to keep you inside (and they have safety belts). The ticket booth is located next to the rides for convenience.

Entertainment

A variety type of music is also present at the fair. Rock bands, Mexican and Country artists, and cultural groups give performances throughout the day. Local radio stations come to host their shows and give away free stuff!

This event is held on two Sundays each year in the months of May and October.
Times are from 8 AM to 5PM
