Encouraging Quotes for Singers

Bernadette Peters, Singing Lessons, Tagore

“Music is the purest form of art… therefore true poets, they who are seers, seek to express the universe in terms of music… The singer has everything within him. The notes come out from his very life. They are not materials gathered from outside.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Of all the instruments in the world, the only instrument that God made by hand is the vocal cord. The vocals are tiny muscles inside of the body. In men, they are the size of a nickel. In women, they are the size of a dime. It is important to protect them because they can be easily damaged. You can use a tuner to correct the tone of a keyboard or a guitar. You can beat a tom tom over and over again to return its drum sounds back to its fullest potential. But something happens to the only naturally made instrument found inside the body, it can mean having to go through surgery to fix it.

“Singing lessons are like body building for your larynx.” – Bernadette Peters

Like every other muscle, it is not such a bad thing to warm up your vocals, stretch them and to work them out. And there is nothing wrong with getting help from a trainer. They can actually help you and guide you in the direction you need to strengthen your cords properly. But remember to breathe. And if you are finding it hard, maybe you should take a yoga class or pilates class which are exercises designed to teach you how to breathe into your muscles.

A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” Maya Angelou

Who knows the reason you sing. I have a operatic concert every night. I am the diva and I sing the aria. My stage: the basement floor. My orchestral accompaniment: Music from Itunes. My audience: the walls. I sing until I get tired and then go about my business. But when I decide to go outside to do it, it isn’t for any other reason than my love for it. But who cares what the reasoning is. If you have a song in your heart, sing it. If you are doing the laundry and feel like singing a song or two, sing. If you are walking down the street and a song just keeps swelling from your soul, let it fly free. A song is meant to be sung and if it is in your heart, do it.

Life is a musical so sing like no one is listening!” – Jasmine Crowe

It’s not about who is around watching or listening to you doing your thing. It is interesting to see a singer sing and never sing a song exactly the same way that they did it the last time. Sometimes you just have to do what you feel. Singing is your expression and your art. Fill it with color and don’t be afraid to bling it up every once in a while with your own individuality regardless of how others might remember it, like it or want you to sing it. It’s your expression, whether there is someone watching or not. Remember that!

There was one emotional outlet my people always had when they had the blues. That was singing. – Ethel Waters

Some people don’t realize the healing power in song. True listening to a song can cause a good cry or help you to relieve that tension that might have been building up. But the listener is not the only one who benefits. Often times the singer finds most of their freedom when letting a song out of their heart. A singer who really loves to sing carries a song in their heart all the time. Singing might sound pretty and may be a beautiful art but for the singer, it is so much more. Don’t ever let that passion die if it is something you love to do.

There`s no half-singing in the shower, you`re either a rock star or an opera diva.” – Josh Groban

Don’t half step it. Give it your all. Sing from your heart. Feel the words that you are singing and give them meaning if it means something to you.

“I am honored all over the world. And there are people who know how to worship me all over the world, who honor me by bringing their best to me. They’re saying it everywhere: ‘God is greater, this God-of-the-Angel-Armies.’ Malachi 1:11

If it is in your heart and you believe in yourself and have faith in God, give it your best. Otherwise, you might as well not do it because it is useless. Sometimes people might feel like you think you are all that or that you are trying to at like you are better than everyone else just because of your love for it. But if you are doing it for the right reasons, there is no holding back. Sing and sing it the way only you know how. And never let someone else’s attitude about you keep you from doing what God has called you to do. If he called you to sing, sing with all your heart.
