eBooks are Great Options for Becoming a Published Author

Never in a million years would I have thought I would be a published author. The easiest way was through the process of digital publishing, called eBooks. Some people say publishing an eBook is not really a book, but I beg to differ. While you may not have a book in your hand, but have a Kindle, Nook or phone displaying a digital copy of a published work, it is still a book. Just because I carry a cell phone, leaving my old rotary phone at home, does not mean I am not taking advantage of the new “on the go phone system.” I am using an easier way to communicate. Digital publishing is new technology at its best, giving readers a new way of viewing a book. There are many ways to become a published author using digital publishing, and I would like to share a couple of avenues I have used.

There are many sites available to publish your work. It is a very simple process. They require that you download a proper picture for your book cover and your transcript. Your work can be seen the world over. Once your work is published, you will receive an email that it is up and ready for viewing and purchase. I think this is a great way to earn exposure. Taking advantage of this tool is a great way to be published. I believe that when you start writing eBooks, it is a process and patience is a virtue, as your work has to build momentum. There are thousands of eBooks out there, but you have to be your best advocate.

There is nothing more gratifying, than to see something you wrote published. I would like to say that being a Indie writer is something one should take very seriously. If you were sending your transcript off to a publisher, you would want your work to shine as bright as a new penny. It should not contain any spelling errors and must have correct punctuation. I have to admit, I was in a rush when I published my first eBook. The process was so easy, but I should have been more vigilant in preparation. I went back this past year, looking at a couple of eBooks I had published in the beginning. I was horrified at the mistakes I had made. I then edited, applying many things I have learned along the way. The more we write, the more we will learn, getting better and better at our craft. It is our reputation on the line as a published author.

Learning to format an eBook may be difficult at first if you have never formatted a book before. I fell into this category but with their great instructional tutorials, after some practice, I did learn how to format a book for publication. Once you get this process down, you have the gold in your hands; it is not difficult at all. Not only can I format my own books for publication but I also may offer to format for others, making some extra money on the side.

Once you have your book published, it is advertised on their site and you can earn money from your book right away from sales. You can see at any time how many have viewed your book, downloaded a sample or bought your book. Your goal is to have the books go to many parts of the world. I am sure many self-publishing sites would not want a book to go out that did not represent them in a good light. If approved, your book can be viewed on every reader out there. Think about this for one minute. Can you calculate how much it would cost to buy your hardback book, putting it on a million shelves all over the world?

I hope this has given you some insight to the world of digital self-publishing. It is a simple process that has taken many authors by storm. Many who said they would never become an indie writer are now making their way to the self-publishing forums. Not only is it cost effective, but it also is the wave of the future. I still love the feel of a good book in my hand and I hope that never goes away, but this is another avenue for you to get your work published.
