Easy Bedroom Design Ideas on a Budget

Bedroom Design

Does your boring bedroom need a touchup? Join the club! Don’t sweat, because the following six ideas require little time, money, or even thought. While these suggestions won’t drastically change your bedroom design, they’ll spice things up and may even trigger you to move onto something more drastic.

Save your designer water bottles. Sparkling mineral water is refreshing, but never a necessary grocery expense. However, getting a colorful glass vase for around $1 is a bargain you shouldn’t pass up. Hang onto old bottles and reuse them to keep flowers fresh.
We suggest: San Pellegrino Sparkling Mineral Water – at your local grocery store.

Low quality sheets make high quality curtains. You don’t need to spend $200 to dress up your bedroom windows. Alternatively, stroll down the bedding aisle of your favorite discount home goods store. You’ll quickly see that a couple of bed sheets and a set of drapery clip rings will do the job just fine. Avoid the college dorm room look by layering your design of choice over a solid sheet and get that flowy, expensive look.
We suggest: Multicolor Paisley Sheet Set — $22 at Target.

Bedside tables optional-creativity mandatory. Tight spaces hardly leave room for anything other than a bed, maybe a wardrobe if you’re lucky. Skip the side table (what do you really do with that thing anyway?) and scoot your dresser next to the bed as an alternative. Never had room for a desk or bookshelf? Do the same thing and you’ll have a handy place for your alarm clock.
We suggest: Five Tier Solid Wood Leaning Shelf — $47 at Wal-Mart

One calendar = 12 art prints. Spare yourself the pricey online poster shops and visit www.calendars.com. Why pay twenty bucks for one print, when you can get a dozen for about the same price? So what if it’s lesser quality? With the right frame and matting no one will even know. Can’t find a calendar you like? Stationery shops always stock trendy wrapping paper that can be used in the same way.
We suggest: A Gathering of Flowers 2007 Wall Calendar — $14 at calendars.com.

Anything looks better with new hardware. Before you toss that eyesore of a dresser of yours, consider giving it a mini makeover. Go to your local home improvement store and check out the selection of hardware. Now imagine that dresser with some vintage inspired glass knobs or drawer pulls (and maybe a fresh coat of paint?).
We suggest: Budding Cloisonne Knobs — $16 each at Anthopologie.

A bedroom doesn’t necessarily need a headboard. Why waste good bedroom space when you can do something fun with it? Blow up your favorite snapshots and art prints (maybe from a calendar?) and frame them. Whether you buy a few picture ledges or just mount your prints on the wall (or both), you’ll never miss the bulk of a headboard.
We suggest: Vertigo 4 piece shelf set — $40 at Target.
