Earth Day 2012 in Dallas,TX

Earth Day is a day to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment. This year’s events in the Dallas metro area will be fun, entertaining and (most importantly) informative. Every year I seem to learn a few new ideas from these events to help the environment. What better way to learn than to do it while having fun.

Earth Day Dallas
Fair Park
Free Admission

April 21-22 from 10am to 6pm each day

Last year I found that this event was very fun and educational. This should prove to be even better since they are moving to Fair Park which has a lot more space for use than the Arts District. Some of the things you can expect are educational activities for the young ones, lots of vendors who can show you how to add “green” touches to your home and life such as solar panels and recycling ideas. There will be plenty of vendors on hand selling food and drinks with a wide variety of vegan foods to carnival style treats. I must admit that I am not a vegan but I have tried and loved the vegan food served here. A wine garden will also be available with beer sales as well. Live music will going on covering all genres. Pets are welcome. Parking will be available but I would suggest riding the Dart light rail (Green line) who have a station right at the front entrance.

Also, since it will be at Fair Park, you can stop by several museums that are located at the fair grounds but they will be an entrance fee for these attractions.

Oak Cliff Earth Day
Historic Lake Cliff Park
Free Admission
April 22 from Noon to 5pm

This event is smaller and more of a neighborhood style event with plenty of things to do it is always fun. There will be plenty of exhibitors on hand to educate you on some easy “green” things you can do to improve your environment. Food and drink vendors will be on hand selling carnival style food and drinks. Entertain will be ranging from musical to local artists. Free parking will be available at Methodist Hospital Lot #10 with a shuttle that will take you to the park.

Learn 2 Live Green
The Shops of Legacy
Free admission
April 14 from 10am to 4pm

This years event has moved to a new location at the Shops of Legacy located at Legacy Drive and the North Dallas Tollway. Exhibitors are on hand to educate and entertain you about “going green”. Every year they have loads of fun activities to participate in such peddling a bike to light up a light bulb and my favorite the DIY classes where I learned how to do some things for myself to improve my carbon footprint. Last year I learned how to make a compost heap so I can make my own fertilizer. Entertainment will be available, I strongly recommend “Critter man” who puts on a show with all types of animals. Parking is available in the shopping center. Food and drink vendors will be on hand.

Make your plans now and head out to one or all of these great events. Hope to see you there.
