Dog Food Recipe – Chicken Flavor

Ziploc Bags

Many people are feeding raw or cooked food for their pets. Below is a recipe for a cooked chicken food with the consistency of canned (depending on your grinder, it may be a bit coarser than canned).

You will need a grinder that will grind chicken leg quarters. If you do not have an electric grinder the old-fashioned meat grinder will work – but you will have arm muscles if you don’t already!

Ingredients:
5 pounds leg quarters (plus or minus)
2 tsp garlic powder (NOT garlic salt)
5 eggs
1 can mackeral
1/2 c. uncooked rice

Boil the chicken and the rice together until the chicken falls off the bones.
Grind up chicken and bones.
Mix in big bowl (this makes about 9 cups) with about a cup of the broth, the rice, the canned mackeral, eggs and garlic powder.

You can add veggies if you want – either grind with the chicken, or fine chop, if your dog / cat will eat them in chunks.

This stays in the fridge for four to five days. Package in serving size disposable containers or ziploc bags (I found the glad-lock containers to be perfect for my 93 pound German Shepherd Dog). If this makes more than you are going to use, just keep two or three days’ worth in the fridge, and package in individual servings and freeze the rest.
