Do You Have What it Takes to Be a Great Singer?

I’ve heard that money makes the world go around. I’ve also heard that it’s love that keeps the world spinning. The one I haven’t heard yet is that music makes the world go round. I dare think that should all the music cease the world may come to a screeching halt!

Music is an important part of who we are as a population. Every state, every country, every type of people incorporate music into their daily lives in one way or another. When people are where there is music they sing! Church groups sing. Children sing in school. People sing along to the radio or their favorite CD. Our nation goes crazy over people who can sing! Just look at all the fuss over American Idol! It’s so popular because we crave music and love to hear singing.

Now, when I say we love to hear people sing I should be saying we love to hear people who can sing well! Who wants to hear someone singing if they are off tone and off beat? Anyone can sing along to a song. Anyone can sing. However not everyone can sing well. Some can though. Some can sing so well that you feel their every word. Some can captivate their audience with pure emotion. The emotion is a big part of what make a singer a great singer. Only gifted people can make their listener FEEL what they are singing.

The feeling is only the first part of being a great singer though. People who have what it takes to be great also have the voice. The voice of course is the main ingredient for a great singer. Everyone has a voice that has the potential to sound great but only a few out of the many have learned how to use it. A great singer never forces the words, but rather the words just flow along with the melody. A great singer doesn’t try to be great. They are all natural and that’s what makes them great. In most cases the singers who think they are the best are not, and the ones who have doubts are. A great singer is never over confident thinking they know it all. A great singer is always seeking to be greater, to learn more, to improve. That’s what makes them so great. They know they’re not everything, they constantly seek improvement and they consistently improve.

A great singer can sing along or on their own. When a true singer knows a song they can sing it word for word beat for beat with no music. In dead silence they can fill the silence with their voice full of song and sing the song accurately.

Do you think that you are a great singer? Or at least have potential to be one? Ask yourself these questions…Do I feel the emotions to the songs that I am singing when I sing them? Do I just like to sing along to the radio or do I really feel like I love to sing? Do people cringe when they hear me sing or do I get their attention and captivate them until my song is finished? Can I turn off the music in the background and still carry out the tune accurately? Do I feel like I love to sing more than others around me?

When you carry a passion within your soul for singing you are a natural born singer. Whether you are great or not depends on you. If you think it is important to carry the feeling through the words then you will do that. If you want your listener to be moved and touched then you will move them and touch them within. Singers who think about these things and know how important they are will incorporate them into their singing. Great singers never force their voices. They don’t try too hard or try to be perfect. A great singer lets the words flow with the feeling. They slide out gracefully. When a singer forces their singing it sounds more like they are yelling. A natural singer sounds beautiful and natural, never forced. Do you think you have what it takes to be a great singer? American Idol is waiting for you…
