DIY Yellow Jacket Attractant

Yellow Jackets

One of the things I love most about Spring and Summer is having people over for Bar-B-Q’s, but what’s really frustrating is having uninvited guests show up and annoy my friends and family. Yellow Jackets always seem to crash my outdoor gatherings and this summer I’ve had enough. I’ve tried numerous different things to cut down on my yellow jacket problem and most have failed. I’ve bought repellent, outdoor candles, oils, zappers, swatters, powder’s and traps and nothing has worked. In total I’ve spent well over $150.00, can you believe that!

Then one day I went outside into my backyard with a glass of home made lemonade and sat down at my patio table. It was like my glass sent out pheromones to these little guys. Within minutes I had at least twenty Yellow Jackets swarming around my cup, crawling on the rim of the glass and within two minutes that number had doubled. It was as if I had Yellow Jacket Attractant all over my glass. That’s when it dawned on me, every single time I brought out a sweet drink they came out of the wood work and found it.

It’s so simple, their attracted to the sugar. Now my mission was to find out what types of drinks they liked the best and pair that drink with my DIY to get the best results. After a few days of trial and error I found that Yellow Jackets are attracted to most soft drinks, with the exception of the sugar free ones. But by far they appeared to love my home made lemonade and tea (sweet tea) the best. I have to admit I make some killer lemonade and tea, well that’s actually a fact now because of the Yellow Jackets.
