Diaper Dekor Plus Diaper Pail Review

Bad Smells, Diaper Pail

I didn’t need a diaper pail until I had my second child. My philosphy was that it’s waste, put it in a bag and get rid of it as soon as possible. Now my situation has changed, I have two children in diapers, one a mobile 18-month-old and the other a mostly formula-fed four-month-old. With more than double the diapers I used before my youngest was born and my oldest grabbing dirty diapers out of the trash can, I decided it was time for a new disposal system. After some consideration of what I wanted in a diaper pail, I settled on the Diaper Dekor Plus. In terms of style, ease of use, performance, and price the Diaper Dekor Plus has both good and bad points.

Style

I like the way the Diaper Dekor Plus looks and the style of the pail is one of its best features. It is white and gray plastic; no baby blue or pink. The fact that the pail doesn’t scream “nursery item” means that it will be functional as a garbage can once the babies are out of diapers for good.

Ease of Use

The Diaper Dekor Plus is very simple to use. All you have to do is step on the foot pedal and throw the diaper in. When it’s time to empty the Diaper Dekor Plus, you just open the bottom door, cut the liner with the cutter inside the pail, and tie a knot to make the bottom of the new bag. The Diaper Dekor Plus comes loaded with the first cartridge of liners. Changing the refill cartridge was intimidating at first but easy to do by following the step-by-step directions that are on the refill itself.

Performance

The performance of the Diaper Dekor Plus is where it lacks. According to the manufacturer, the Diaper Dekor Plus holds 40 diapers at a time but if you are like me, you may not always make it to 40 due to the odor. There is no sealed compartment for the diapers so this diaper pail does nothing to prevent the bad smells associated with dirty diapers. Soiled diapers are especially troublesome with this pail and I actually recommend that they stay out of the pail as much as possible. The problem is that every time you put a diaper in the pail whatever smell is lingering inside releases into the room. The liner has its own sweet kind of smell and I don’t find it complementary to the smell of dirty diapers; it actually makes the odor worse.

Price

I paid $39.99 for my Diaper Dekor Plus and at that price it isn’t the cheapest or the most expensive diaper pail around. It does continue to cost over time and liner refills are $14.99 a box. The upfront cost plus the cost of refills make the Diaper Dekor Plus a considerable expense.

If you need a simple and relatively attractive diaper pail, I recommend the Diaper Dekor Plus. The simplicity of this diaper pail is both a feature and a fault: on one hand it is easy to use, but on the other hand it is not much more than a trash can with a lid and it performs as such. Overall, the Diaper Dekor Plus is an acceptable diaper pail as long as foul smelling diapers are disposed of in a timely manner.
