I’ll never forget the first day bringing my newborn son home from the hospital. I went to change his first “at home” dirty diaper and realized I had no where to throw it away. I turned around and gave it to my husband and told him to get rid of it. It stunk so bad that he had to go outside and throw it in the pails. This couldn’t happen all night. So I sent my mom to the store to buy the Diaper Champ.
We purchased the original Diaper Champ when my son was first born over two years ago. To me this was a no brainer. This is one of the only diaper systems that don’t require any special type of garbage bag. You could use any type of garbage bag, I use the ones from Target. I use the standard kitchen drawstring garbage bag (no frills). What I don’t like about the other diaper pail systems is that they require you to purchase their matching garbage bags or else they won’t fit and won’t work in the diaper pail. This diaper champ pail saves you money in that way.
What I also like about the Diaper Champ is that it is pretty simple to operate. All you have to do is put the closed diaper in the top whole and then take the lever and move it open or closed. The dirty diaper then falls into the pail, no smell, no touching. Once the pail is full then you simply open the lid and remove the bag. The one problem that I do notice with this pail is that it is hard to open the top. Your fingers can get pinched if you don’t do it correctly. I think they can improve on this part of the product.
I also would suggest cleaning the diaper champ at least once a week. I spray it with Lysol everyday to keep the pail from smelling. It is supposed to keep the smell away but I don’t think you are going to find any diaper pail that really keeps the smell away. You have to keep it clean. Keep a can of Lysol right next to your spare garbage bags, this way you don’t forget.
You could purchase this Diaper Champ from Babies R Us for $29.99. You could also purchase it for the same price at Target. I noticed that this is the old model. There is a new and improved diaper champ that they are selling now. I hope they improved on the opening of the top of the pail. To me that is the only feature that needed improvements. The old and the new Diaper Champ take both cloth and disposable diapers. I do have to say that my favorite feature is still the no special cartridge and no special bags.
I love this product. I highly recommend the Diaper Champ. It is the best diaper pail on the market. I will be purchasing the new and improved Diaper Champ for my next child.
