DeLonghi Tower Ceramic Heater

Delonghi

My office is the chilliest room in our home, and for the past few years we have used an oil filled heater. This worked OK, but got terribly hot, and I had to sit right next to it to notice the benefit. When I saw the DeLonghi Tower Ceramic Heater at Costco for only $42, I decided to give it a try.

Description

The heater is black and measures 22″ tall, with a 8″ base, and the fan has the option of oscillating or remaining stationary at the touch of a button. There are several silver colored buttons on the front of the heaters control panel: Oscillating base, set time, temperature adjustment, mode, and on/off. An LED panel lights up to show the digital temperature, and a red light turns on when the heater is on.

When you first plus the heater in, it will beep and the “on” light will illuminate. The heater will start out on “low” and the LED display will tell you the current temperature of the room the heater is in. If you desire more heat, simply switch the mode to “high”. There are + and – buttons that allow you to increase or decrease the temperature setting.

The motorized rotating base will help distribute the heat evenly to a larger room. If you don’t want the heater to oscillate back and forth, simply push a button and it will remain in place. Wait until the heater is pointing where you want it and hit the stop button. It has two heat settings, high generates 1500 watts and low generates 850 watts. It has a safety feature built in that will shut off the heater if it should tip over.

Thoughts

This is a great little heater for the price. It has a thermostat that will keep the temperature constant, and the heat will shut off when the ambient room temperature is 2 degrees above the set temperature. Likewise, when the room temperature dips too low, the heater will come on. This unit also comes with a small remote control (complete with batteries), that comes in very handy if the heater is on the other side of the room. If you feel more comfortable using the heater without the timer, you can easily switch to manual operation by pushing a button.

You can set this heater to display the heat in two modes, either Centigrade or Fahrenheit. Another nice feature about this heater is that it has a minimum energy consumption feature that will keep the temperature of a room at 42 degrees to prevent freezing. Maintenance with this heater is minimal, the manual says to run a vacuum over the air intake and exhaust grilles “regularly”, but I make it a habit of doing so when I vacuum the room, so I keep on top of it.

This little heater takes up very little space, mine doesn’t get very hot to the touch, and it has a very powerful fan that blows the heat into the room. It took me a few minutes to match up the buttons on the front with the buttons in the manual, because I wasn’t sure what all of the symbols stood for. The learning curve is very low and this heater has been working like a charm for us. It feels nice to have the heat blow directly on me, and within an hour my office is nice and toasty.

There is also a safety feature built in, which will make the unit shut off if it overheats. The heater comes with a one year warranty.
