Decorating Ideas for a Screened Oceanfront Porch

Decorating Projects, Oceanfront, Screened Porch

It is the dream of many to have an oceanfront home. They imagine combing a private beach for ocean treasures while enjoying salty breezes and the warmth of the sun. Many people also imagine decorating an oceanfront screened porch. They dream of sitting back and relaxing while taking in the view from the confines of their home.

I had the pleasure of spending a week with a friend that needed new decorating ideas for her oceanfront screened porch. It was not being used to the fullest potential, and it needed new furnishings, flooring and fresh decor. I enjoyed helping her select everything from terrazzo floor tiles to works of art for the walls. Some items were repurposed to other areas of the home, while others were donated. In the end we created a stylish oceanfront screened porch that she would spend hours in each day, and it became a more functional part of the home.

Consider Terrazzo Tiles for a Screened Oceanfront Porch

My friend’s screened porch was carpeted with indoor/outdoor carpeting, but it did nothing to add style or enhance the comfort of the space. It was also full of sand. When decorating and furnishing an oceanfront home, carpeting is not an ideal floor covering. Not only does the sand filter down into the base and padding, but it also works like glass to cut the fibers. Terrazzo tiles are a fantastic choice.

I helped my friend choose beautiful terrazzo tiles for her oceanfront screened porch. They were unique, durable, and they would be very easy to clean. After we had the tiles professionally installed, we moved on to the next decorating step.

Opt for Wicker Indoor/Outdoor Furnishings

I recommended re-purposing the existing furniture and decorating with indoor/outdoor wicker furnishings. After careful consideration, we chose beautiful white wicker with cushions that were very easy to clean. The table was comprised of a wicker frame, and it was topped with tempered glass.

I suggested decorating the tabletop with a beautiful centerpiece. I created an arrangement of oceanfront flowers and grasses. I chose sunny yellow jasmine, gaillardia and sea oats. The plant life was fresh and would not last forever. I suggested decorating with faux varieties once the growing season had ended.

Use Driftwood When Decorating

Decorating my friend’s oceanfront screened porch was easy with the multitude of natural decor just outside her back door. The beach provided a wide variety of treasures that were free for the taking. We collected dry driftwood that was naturally beautiful and uniquely shaped. I propped a large chunky piece in an empty corner of the screened porch. It was a lovely work of art and ideal for an oceanfront home.

I plan on helping my friend with more of her decorating projects. Each time I visit, we spend hours thumbing through my home decorating catalogs and discussing new ideas. I enjoy creating functional works of art, and her oceanfront home has been one of my favorite ongoing projects.
