Decorating a Teen Girl’s Bedroom

Corkboard, Girl's Bedroom, Hang Up, Painting Walls

Decorating a teen girl’s bedroom needs to be done to the needs and tastes of each individual girl. You will want your teen to have an enjoyable place to retreat to, when the pressures of the looming adult world become too much. Your teen girl should feel she has a private place to retreat to, and she should be allowed to have control of the decor, for the most part.

Here are a few fun ideas for decorating a teen girls bedroom:

1. Hang up glitter CD’s from the ceiling. Buy a bulk package of CD’s from any discount store, and decorate with glitter and glue. Spread some glue on the CD, and simply sprinkle with glitter. Once one side dries, flip over and do the other side. Experiment with colors and designs. If your teen is interested, experiment with glow in the dark glue and/or glitter. These look really cool and expensive, but are fairly easy and cheap! Total Cost: Under $10.

2. Take digital photographs of scenary that your child is interested in, such as horses, cityscapes, farm land, or perhaps a college that they are interested in. Choose one photo, and have it blown up to poster size. Frame the poster, and hang it up in their room. They will appreciate it more if it is a photo that they took and choose, as opposed to a poster they purchased at the store. Total Cost: $35

3. Hang up a corkboard wall. Purchase corkboard squares at a local supply store. Hang them up to cover one complete wall. Now, your teen can hang photos, notes, decorations, calendars, ribbon, awards and other important information. The corkboard wall is a fun and easy way to attach decor to the walls for your teen.

4.. Choose photos of friends and family members to hang up around room. Use inexpensive mat board to frame the photo’s. Cut the mat board thick, so captions or decorations can be put around the photos. These photos can be hung on ribbon around the room, or from the ceiling, or even on the corkboard wall.

5. Have plenty of seating available for your teen when she has friends over. Bean bag chairs are always a popular choice. Moon chairs, or the large, circular comfortable chairs, come in a variety of colors and styles. If your teen’s room is large enough, consider adding a futon or ottoman for extra seating. A futon works nicely for sleepovers as well.

The ideas for a teen’s room will vary depending on your teenager. If your teenager is an artist, enlist their help in painting a mural on the wall. If they are a musician, create fun, musical shapes out of foam or wood to decorate the walls.

If your teen girl is handy with crafts, purchasing some material and batting is inexpensive, and she can create fun pillows in any shape or decor she likes.

Your teen should be involved in the decor for their room, and most likely, they will insist on being fully involved. They are old enough to help, even with the more difficult tasks such as painting walls and moving furniture around.

Allowing your teen to create the perfect and relaxing getaway will help her adjust to life as she gets older, and will allow her the space she needs for her own privacy.
