Creative Ways to Use a Pine Tree Stump

Crafting Ideas, Hanging Baskets, Solar Light, Tree Stump

People have been known to spend countless hours trying to dig a stump out of the ground after cutting down a dead or unwanted tree. Others pay an exorbitant price have it ground away and removed. Why get rid of it? Even the stump of a pine tree is worth keeping. Use it to decorate your yard in impressive and practical new ways. What was once a beautiful pine tree can become something more.

My ex husband is planning on cutting down a large pine tree in his front yard. The tree is dying, and he wants to come up with a creative way to use the stump. I began thinking of ways to use it to decorate and improve the design of his yard, and I came up with a number of easy ideas.

Use it as a Bird Feeder Post

Do you enjoy feeding the birds? Use a tall pine tree stump to decorate the yard with a bird feeder. A sturdy stump is a ready made post, and it is already securely anchored to the ground. Keep it natural, and the birds will have a wonderful place to feed. A tree that was once a source of refuge can become a source of food.

For something truly unique, attach a pine feeder of your choice to the top of the tree stump, and add plant hooks around the trunk. Use the hooks to hold a suet feeder, a hummingbird feeder and a finch feeder. The feeding station will decorate the yard in a creative new way while serving a valuable purpose.

Create a Post for Holding Hanging Baskets

A tall pine tree stump can be used to create a post for holding beautiful hanging baskets. Use the top to hold a beautiful basket with hanging vines around the edges and flowers in the center. Attach plant hooks around the pine stump about a foot down from the top. Use the hooks to display the baskets. It will look amazing with the vines cascading over the edges of the upper pot, especially with all of the flowers in bloom.

Use it as a Birdbath Base

A pine stump can also be used as a birdbath base. I ended up with just a bowl after one of my bases broke. I happened to have an extra one. One was painted terracotta, and the other one was covered in stone. They did were not designed to go together, but it worked. A pine tree stump would have made a perfect base, and it would have been indestructible.

After thinking of creative ways to use a pine stump, I wish I had one to use. A tall pine stump could also be used as a post for a solar light, or it could be carved to look like an arrow or a totem pole. With a pine tree stump, a creative imagination and the desire to decorate your yard in unique new ways, anything is possible.
