Camping on Long Island New York

You do not have to travel far from New York City to enjoy a camping experience. Just an hour or even less out on Long Island there are some great camp ground, both public and private, in all different areas, when you can explore the sea shore or the wine country or some of the historic villages and fine shopping that Long Island has to offer. Camping season starts as early as April and some of the camp grounds are open all year long for RV’s. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to discover Long Island. These camp grounds require reservations and they are popular, so the earlier you make your plans, the more you can be sure not only to be able to get any camp ground, but also to be able to get one of the best that each one has to offer. Whether you are just looking for a quick escape from the city, or are a visitor from out of state, camping on Long Island will give you a great time and plenty of memories to last a life time.

Greenport is out on the far east end of the North Fork of Long Island. There are great beaches and plenty of fine Long Island Wineries to visit. The children will love visiting the Maritime Museum where they can find out about the whaling history of this part of Long Island.
Eastern Campground is one of the largest on Long Island with spaces for tents, trailers and RV’s . They have special events for the whole family. The kinds will love Fire Truck Rides; Tractor Hay Rides; and Tractor Train Rides and for the “older” crown there are DJ on Saturday Nights. Memorial day marks the official start of the swimming season in all of New York, not only on Long Island and that is when the Pool Opens. Rainy days are not a wash out either, you can catch a movie while the children have their story time.

Theodore Roosevelt County Park is just one of the Suffolk County Parks that have camp grounds. Theodore Roosevelt is open 7 days a week until Oct. 31, 2006 Nov 1, 2006 to Mar. 26,2007 7 Days a week (Weather Permitting) April 1, 2007 to Oct. 3,2007 7 Days a week . There plenty of outdoor adventures in Theodore Roosevelt Park from horseback riding to fresh water fishing. The Town of Montauk is famous for its lighthouse, which is a great attraction for the kids to visit. You can check out the local wineries, or just relax on the white sand beaches and catch the ocean breezes.

New York State has a fabulous network of parks all across the state, and Long Island is no exception to the rule. Wildwood State Park has camping for trailers and tents. Camping season begins the first weekend of April and ends on Columbus Day weekend. Wading River in on the North Shore of Long Island, right on Long Island Sound. Be sure to take some time to visit the local wineries.
