If you’ve made the decision to build your own computer than you must begin to make choices about what you should put into your personal computers. In the world of computer building, anything that you put inside of your computer or anything hardware related that you use to make your computer function is called a component. Components make up the workings of a computer. These components make a computer function as desired and make everything work together.
In order to get started with the building of your computer, you will need to purchase the components. Now you can purchase each component individually, or you can buy them in sets that are already grouped together for you. The grouped sets are referred to as barebone kits.
If this is your first computer build, then you might want to consider a barebone kit. A barebone kit usually contains a case or tower. This is the box that houses all of your other components. A barebone kit usually includes a motherboard, a processor or cpu, a power supply, and possibly some memory modules. Though each barebone kit does include different components, the purpose of a barebone kit is to assure you that the components will work together. By selecting a barebone kit you are assured that your power supply will be adequate, that the motherboard will fit in the case, that the processor will work with the mother board and that anything else included with the kit will function correctly with the other components that you received.
A barebone kit alleviates research on your behalf. The company that you purchase the barebone kit from has already done the research and has determined that the parts that are included in the kit will be compatible with each other.
Now a barebone kit is certainly not the only way to go. You can choose each component yourself and assemble your own kit. The only difference here is that you will have to do some research online to make sure that you are selecting compatible parts. Or you can simply call the online retailer that you plan on purchasing from and they should be able to walk you through the component selection process. Must online retailers have very detailed compatibility charts and also help guide your selections based on compatible components only.
If you are ever in doubt of the compatibility of some components that interest you don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are forums all over the internet that specialize in computer building and the answer to your question is usually never more than a click away.
If you find a barebone kit that exactly fits your need than that will be the way to go, however if you have very specific needs, or you cannot find a barebone kit with exactly what you want than don’t settle for buying a kit, simply select the components one by one.
