Hyperion Books and ABC Studios have done it again with producing another novel by fictional author, Richard Castle. Naked Heat is the newest book by Richard Castle, the author who previously has written Heat Wave, and stars in the ABC series, Castle. The TV series, Castle, is in its third season and is going strong, with a season that has been extended with twenty four episodes. In the Heat series, these books have been focused on Nikki Heat, a New York City Police Detective and is based on the New York City Police Detective Kate Beckett of the TV series, Castle.
In Naked Heat, Detective Nikki Heat is investigating the death of a newspaper gossip columnist, who as we discover throughout the book, is not well liked and is actually hated by many who are suspects in her murder. Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook, the character that is based on Richard Castle in the TV series, have long gone their separate ways since the article that he had written about her for the local newspaper has been finished. Nikki is not too happy with the way that the article had gone since it mainly was focused on her and not the police department. The article has made Nikki a bit famous, too much so for her liking, and has tried to stay out of the limelight.
All that is about to change when Nikki discovers a connection with the gossip columnist and Jameson Rook. Apparently, Rook was doing an article on the woman and was getting close to some of the secrets that had made her who she was. He had also discovered that the woman was writing a tell all book about some important players in the music arenas and other areas. Of course, no one knew what the book was exactly about since no one had the information about the book except the publisher himself and he was not about to divulge anything. He also did not have the last chapter which was to explain everything.
As this is going on, there are a few murders that are happening in the city. As the investigation continues, Nikki discovers that the reporter was connected in some way to the murders that are currently happening. It was these connections that apparently got her killed. As she continues her investigations, Nikki does her best to get to the truth of the matter, which is not easy, considering she is kidnapped and almost killed. Also in this, Jameson Rook is up to his eye balls in this case, almost getting himself killed in the process. As the case continues, Nikki and Jameson rekindle their romance and he is again helping her on the case. Nikki also discovers that Jameson is also an author, besides being a reporter. It will take all their experiences in both police and reporting work to be able to solve this case before another murder occurs.
It is interesting to note that as you read this book, you are invariably making comparisons between the characters in this book to the characters on the TV series, Castle. It is hard not to. The characters in both are similar in most ways and dissimilar in others. I enjoyed reading this book and I am thrilled about what ABC is doing in promoting this book and all. If you want to read a pretty good mystery, then this book is for you. I am hoping there will be another Richard Castle book in the future that ABC and Hyperion Books will publish and promote.
