Book Club Party Ideas

Book Clubs, Under the Tuscan Sun

Having a book club is a great way to get together with friends on a regular basis. My friends and I have been doing a book club for the past 4 years now and have had some great themed book clubs along the way. We don’t do a theme every month because sometimes it is hard to find a book to theme it around or we are just too darn lazy to do a theme. Here I will share a few of the themed book clubs that we have had and how you can have a themed book club party.

1. Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner

This book is about a group of ladies that become friend because they have one thing in common-they are pregnant. It is a great, quick read and is really enjoyable. You will feel for these women as they go through the trials of pregnancy and learn how having a newborn affects their marriages. For more information on this book go here.

We did this book because there were three of us in the group that were pregnant at the time. It was very easy to decorate because we just sort of did baby shower type stuff. For food we have all of our favorite cravings. We had pickles, ice cream , chocolate and a lot of the usual craving foods, but we also did what we were each craving peanut butter, skittles, and olives.

2. Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs

This book is about a group of women that get together for a Knitting Club but find out there is much more to life and knitting than they can imagine. It is a heartwarming story of friendship and love. For more information on the Friday Night Knitting Club and where it can be purchased visit here.

This book was chosen by one of our members that actually knits. For the book club party she had us all a pair of needles and some yarn and taught us all how to knit. We were not really looking forward to this because how many 25-30 year old knit? It was actually a lot of fun seeing how each person struggled or succeeded with knitting. Some of us caught on rather quickly while some of us ended up throwing the needles in frustration. A few of us have actually started knitting as a hobby!

We based our food upon the book. You will see throughout the book that different food are talked about and loved. There is even a recipe at the end of the book.

3. Under The Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes

Under The Tuscan Sun follows a woman as she tries to restore an abandoned villa in Tuscany. She encounters many unexpected problems and finds in her adventures of her villa and the local town. For more information on Under The Tuscan Sun go here.

For this book we did a wine tasting event. You can go to some restaurants for a wine testing, but we did it at a member’s home. She had a wine tasting kit that she had received as a present, but if you don’t have one you can find one online. You can find a wine tasting kit here or here. This was a lot of fun. Everyone brought a bottle of wine and some cheese or something that went with their particular wine. It was great to taste a variety of wines and find new one you like.
