Best Songs for Any Drummer to Cover

One day, I was warming up when the guitarist in my band asked me “What are some of the most fun songs to cover for drums?” This question made me think a lot. I listened to hundreds of songs to try to think of the perfect answer. I eventually came up with the very simple answer that it depended on the skill level of the drummer. He asked “What is the most fun song on any difficulty?” Now, that was a question I liked. I quite enjoyed the answers I came up with.

My favorite covers

The first song I realized I thoroughly enjoyed playing was Re-education through labor by Rise Against. This song is intensely hard yet very amusing. The basic beat of the song is slightly difficult, but there are some very intense fills in that song too. It involves lots of fast use of toms, bass, and snare. This was also one of my favorite songs at the time, so it made me very pleased to tell him this. Next, I told him another one of my favorite songs, New Divide by Linkin Park. This is a much less difficult song, yet something about it just sounds so cool that I play it over and over. I think it is just an inspiring song to drum. Another inspiring song to drum is Send the Pain Below by CheVelle. Again, it’s not super difficult, but the beat is truly interesting. But, I informed him that most of all, I liked to drum Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden. Maiden is really one of the best bands of all times. It involves fast hi-hat use along with opening of the hats, and really quick hand movement in general. These are just a few of my favorite songs to cover.

Genres and lessons

Overall, there are hundreds of different songs; there are thousands, really, of songs that are good to cover for different people. The guitarist likes it when I drum The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars, but it isn’t one of my favorites. It depends on the type of rock you like to play. If you like to play more hardcore types of rock, like speed metal; be warned that you had better be good at using the double bass pedal quickly. Drums are one of the most useful instruments, especially at concerts. They are used in almost every genre of music. Remember, you can learn to play almost any song with lots of practice, rhythm, tempo, and patience. Speaking of rhythm and tempo, these are two very important skills that will be majorly improved in lessons if you have not taken any. Lessons are very expensive, but very worth the money for a while until your teacher puts you on your drumming feet.

Variety in covering

Also, what song you should cover is specific to your likes and skills. If you are just learning, the best song for you to start with is The Hardest button to button. I guarantee that almost a complete rookie at drumming can play this song. As you advance, you should learn to play different types of music with a variety of beats. This is good for creativity, a vital skill for drummers. One day, you might be making drum beats for your own songs, where you simply have to put in drum beats that sound right by the other instruments you hear. This isn’t easy, but it’s definitely attainable with enough practice and patience.
