If you play sports and happen to be in Bangkok, Thailand, you could think it might be difficult to buy sportswear and sports equipment. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Buying sportswear and sports equipment is easy in Bangkok as there are so many good sporting goods stores with lots of choice. Bangkok prices for sporting goods is also often much cheaper than western prices. If you’re going shopping for sporting goods in Bangkok, these stores and malls have great selections of sports equipment.
MBK – One of the absolute best places to buy sports equipment or sporting goods in Bangkok is at MBK Mall. Short for Mahboonkrong, MBK Mall is an enormous mall famous for its cheap products. It’s located right next to National Stadium sky train station so is very easy to get to, and the selection of sportswear and sports equipment is excellent.
From small market stall-style shops to larger sporting goods stores, you can buy many sports items here. Sportswear (t shirts, shorts, sports bras, sports underwear, running shoes, golf equipment, swimsuits, NFL gear, even skateboards and rollerblades can be bought at MBK. As it’s also one of the cheapest places to shop in Bangkok, look for the sporting goods you want here first.
Chatuchak Weekend Market – Held on Friday nights and all day Saturday and Sunday, Chatuchak Weekend Market has a great selection of sporting goods. Sports t-shirts, football shirts, running shoes, golf shoes, Muay Thai shorts and boxing gloves, swimsuits, tennis shoes, tennis balls, golf balls, skateboards, skateboard shirts and shorts, bicycle helmets – so many types of sportswear and sports equipment is available at Chatuchak. You can also bargain here, so the price you finally get could be the cheapest anywhere in Bangkok.
Super Sports – Super Sports is a big Thai sporting chain, which has over 40 stores throughout Thailand. The Super Sports stores are usually in Robinsons, Zen or Central department stores and sell everything. Super Sports is a particularly great place to buy treadmills, exercise bikes, footballs, skateboards, basketballs, tennis equipment, running equipment and cycling equipment. Prices are definitely higher here, but the quality is superb and they do sell almost everything you might be looking for. I bought my last treadmill here and got a great price plus free delivery.
Sports Zone – There are three Sports Zone stores in Bangkok, one in Siam Square, one in Din Daeng and one in Chonburi. Sports Zone prices are more expensive than MBK or Chatuchak, on average, but usually cheaper than Super Sports. They also sell lots of brand name sporting goods for just about every sport.
FBT Sports Complex – This is probably the super store for sports equipment in Bangkok. It’s been open for more than 50 years and has almost 3,000 employees. Seven floors of sports equipment, you can buy equipment for rugby, American football, baseball, hockey, swimming, tennis, basketball, squash, Muay Thai, volleyball and a hundred other things in between. They also sell all the top brands like Adidas, Nike, Fila, Reebok, Converse and Speedo. Prices too are very competitive. FBT Sports Complex is located in the Ramkamhaeng area of Bangkok. Just take a taxi and tell the driver “FBT Sports Complex.
One final note, although it is very easy to find sporting goods in Bangkok, finding large or extra large sizes can be a lot more difficult as Thais are quite small and thin. This also means some Thai brands of sportswear have shorter legs for things like shorts and pants so always try everything on before you buy.
