When people think of places where to fish, the state of Arizona, much less the city of Tucson, are not the first words that come to mind. However, amid the desert terrain, people find some of the best fishing locations in Tucson and the surrounding areas. The following is a list of the best local fishing spots in Southern Arizona.
Silverbell Lake
Silverbell Lake is an urban lake in the northwest section of Tucson in Christopher Columbus Park. It is located between Camino del Cerro and Grant Road. This is one of the best fishing locations for catfish, trout, bass, white amur, and carp. This is one of the local fishing spots that require an urban fishing license and a place where individuals don’t have to compete with swimmers. Lakeside Lake
This is one of the local fishing spots located in Chuck Ford-Lakeside Park in the eastern section of the city of Tucson. This is one of the best fishing locations in the cities’ park, on the northwest corner of Stella Road and Sarnoff Drive. The lake is about 35 feet deep. The lake is stocked with catfish, trout, bass, sunfish, and crappie. An urban fishing license is required and swimming is forbidden. Boats under 14 feet and canoes under 17 feet are allowed. Kennedy Lake
This is another local fishing spot in the city of Tucson, located in J. F. Kennedy Park in the southwest area of the city. This south side fishing location is north of Ajo Way between La Cholla and Mission Road. Boats under 14 feet and canoes under 17 feet are permitted in the lake containing channel catfish, rainbow trout, bluegill, redear sunfish, hybrid sunfish, largemouth bass, carp, and white amur. Sahuarita Lake
This is one of the best fishing locations located outside of the city of Tucson. This fishing spot is 18 miles south of the city, off Exit 75 (Sahuarita Road) off Interstate 19 (Nogales Highway). Once people exit the highway, they go 1 mile east to La Villita Road and take the road1.2 miles north. This is a location where to fish for channel catfish, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, and hybrid sunfish. They have the same water vessel requirements of the other lakes. Patagonia Lake
Patagonia Lake is one of the best fishing locations outside of the city of Tucson. This fishing spot is 20 miles northeast of Nogales. This is where to fish for bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and rainbow trout. A fishing license is required to fish at this location and pets are not allowed on the beach.
