Best CSAs for Intown Atlanta Residents

Chicken Eggs

There are a number of grocery stores around the intown Atlanta area that offer great organic produce, but there is nothing like supporting local farmers and getting fresher farm to table produce from local sources.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) memberships are the answer for those that cook often and want the freshest produce, eggs, and meat locally available at typically much lower prices than the fresh food grocery chains. Become a member of some of the great local CSAs available to in-town Atlanta residents to make sure you always have the freshest available food.

Egg CSA

Everyone is probably more familiar with vegetable CSAs, but CSAs these days go beyond your basic fruit and vegetable memberships. There are CSAs around intown Atlanta dedicated to delivering the freshest and healthiest eggs to you. If you want to ensure that those cute hens lay healthy, tasty eggs you may want to consider investing in a Many Fold Farm egg CSA membership.

The cost is $70.00 for a 12 week share (about $6 per dozen) of one dozen eggs every week. You may consider this costly, but think of the health and diet of the eggs you are eating even compared to the store-bought, cage-free, organic chicken eggs. Plus, you are supporting the local farmer and the pickup is conveniently located at a farmer’s market where you can purchase even more tasty local fare.

Meat CSA

A lot of us have not yet reached the pinnacle of ”’¹…”greenness’ and crossed over to a vegan or vegetarian diet. It’s ok, we are all working on it. In the mean time, the closest thing to greening up the horrible, industrialized meat cycle is buying organic, locally and humanely raised meat and there is no easier (or cheaper) way to do this than with a meat CSA subscription.

Riverview Farms , one of the oldest organic farms in the country, is located in the Appalachians of Georgia and provides CSA members 10 pounds of assorted meat per month for about $69.00 (about $6.90 per pound). If you’ve been purchasing sick, industrial farm-raised meat and are just switching over this may sound steep but drop into any of the Atlanta butchers and groceries that sell grass fed organic and/or beef, chicken, or pork and you will quickly realize this is a deal. The Riverview Farms meat CSA keeps the meat selection pretty safe for the general population’s palette and predictable by generally making 30-40% of the 10 pound meat share ground meats (sausages, ground beef). The CSA subscription also generally includes roast, pork chops, and steaks, although the contents do vary by the month and can sometimes include chicken, eggs, lamb, and even seafood. Riverview Farms has numerous convenient pickups around the intown area and the meat comes safely packed and frozen, ready for your enjoyment!

Produce CSAs

Moores Farms and Friends

Moores Farms and Friends is run by a loving husband and wife duo. The foods are naturally and organically raised on a small farm and delivered to a plethora of convenient intown Atlanta locations. Moores Farms and Friends membership starts at $20 per half-share and $30 for a full-share. There is also a one-time membership fee of $30 when initially becoming a member and unlike other CSAs simply requires a weekly payment versus a large one-time payment.

Truly Living Well

Truly Living Well CSA is unique, because the food is actually grown on a farm located within the city limits. Rashid Nuri, a local church pastor, got together with a few involved citizens and government officials and turned what used to be old, government projects into a viable working farm full of raised beds of certified naturally raised produce.
