Best Character on The Soprano’s: Adriana La Cerva

Adriana La Cerva played by Drea De Matteo, was more than CHRIS-TA-FER’S bimbo finance. I believed Adriana was an innocent. An innocent fish swimming among sharks but didn’t care because she’d been living among sharks all of her life. Adriana lived and thought as a child in a world of violence and death. She thought the violence and death would never touch her because she had Christopher and Tony to protect her. It was the only family she knew.

She loved the mob life and Christopher who in one episode, she got to see being made. Adriana lived a safe privileged life until the FBI came to call asking her to get her boyfriend to turn in Tony Soprano to them or they will go to jail for five years on drug charges. Adriana woke up and was suddenly sober to the mob life around her. She knew exactly what they would do to her if they found out she was an informant for the FBI but still hoped she and Christopher would leave the life.
Adriana confesses being an informant for the FBI to Christopher. Christopher sees red and hits Adriana across the face sending her flying into the sofa where he attempts to chokes her death. I was at the end of my seat with this scene. I guess I was naive to hope Christopher would love Adriana enough to run away from Tony and the mob.

I knew what was going to happen next but didn’t want to admit it. I hoped Adriana would finally wise up and just run away, leaving Christopher, the mob and the FBI. The episode arrived when Silvio Dante under the pretence of seeing Christopher, takes Adriana into a secluded spot in the woods. It was horrible to watch as a hysterically crying Adriana, crawls on loose leaves and grass while Silvio curses down at her shooting her twice. It is said that Tony was going to have Paulie Walnuts do it, but changed his mind feeling, Paulie wouldn’t be able to do it. It has been teased in the earlier episodes that Paulie may have a crush on Adriana and is envious of Christopher. This episode of Adriana’s death was noted as the highest rated episode, the next morning.

The episode was shocking but you expected it. It was an episode that was kept secret until you saw it in the coming attractions. I still miss Adriana. Could she really be dead? There is a rumor that Tony hearing about the FBI, (and almost kissing Adriana), told Paulie Walnuts to keep her safe from the FBI and Christopher. I also heard Paulie Walnuts told Silvio to keep Adriana safe from Tony and Christopher. Adriana’s death is a turning point for many characters, Christopher, Tony, Carmella and Paulie. She affected all their lives in some small and big ways. I’m hoping the writers will examine how these characters were affected by Adriana’s death in these new episodes. We will see in April 8th.
