Best Advice for Visiting Six Flags Great Adventure This Summer

Great Adventure, Six Flags, Six Flags Great Adventure, Water Rides

It’s not Walt Disney World, but Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, can provide a good many thrills this summer. The theme park offers Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, as well as some classic favorites such as the Great American Scream Machine, Batman the Ride, Batman and Robin: The Chiller, Medusa, Nitro, and Superman: Ultimate Flight. Not to mention some fabulous water rides. Here is the best advice for visiting Six Flags Great Adventure this summer.

1. Take advantage of Six Flags Great Adventure’s special promotions. Don’t be the only group standing in line for passes without an empty can of Coca Cola. Find out their special promotions ahead of time and plan accordingly. Restrictions on days will apply, but they will usually work in your favor. The promotions are generally offered when the theme park will be less crowded, so you can enter for a reduced price and enjoy many of the rides without waiting on long lines.

2. If you are going to be visiting Six Flags Great Adventure multiple times this summer, purchase an annual pass. An annual pass will save you a lot of money in the long run, and you can take as many day trips as you’d like without having to worry too much about the costs.

3. Arrive after four p.m. This is generally when the special promotions kick in, even on busier days. And that is because four p.m. is when the park begins to empty a bit. By arriving after four p.m., you get to avoid the worst of the midday sun and you avoid the ridiculous lines you see at Six Flags Great Adventure during the morning hours and early afternoon.

4. Drink beer. Did you know Six Flags Great Adventure serves beer? Relax in one of their designated areas and enjoy a tall frosty one. Beer helps you to endure those ridiculous lines. Just make sure you use the restroom before standing in line. Or at least have a buddy there to hold your place. And take it from me, Kingda Ka is not recommended after your fifth 23-ounce brew.

5. Check ahead to find out which attractions at Six Flags Great Adventure will be closed. Visit their website or call them. There is nothing worse than traveling all the way down to Jackson, New Jersey, only to find out Kingda Ka is closed. And the theme park does this regularly to keep people coming back.

6. If you do arrive early in the morning, take advantage of the water rides during the day. They will keep you cool. Save the roller coasters – especially the more popular ones – for the evening, when the lines are virtually nil.

7. Avoid altogether anything that costs extra. Avoid the gift shops, the bungee jump, the Six Flags Great Adventure version of the Fast Pass, the chances. These can all add up and make your Six Flags Great Adventure trip a costly one. And if you are going to spend that much money, you might as well fly down to Florida.
