Best 3 April Fools’ Day Desserts for Families

Books for Preschoolers, Melts, Pound Cake, Spring Holidays

Do you love to celebrate the spring holidays with your family? If so, you may want to kick around the idea of surprising them with a few April Fools’ Day inspired desserts. As a former events planner, I know of a trio of treats that would be superlative for such a get-together. Here they are:

Fruit Fools (Monster Snot)

One of the first desserts that you may want to consider serving is a fruit fool. Just in case you are not familiar with them, they are made with heavy whipping cream, granulated sugar and pureed fruits. Feel free to use whichever fruit you like.

To make a basic fool, chill a metal mixing bowl and a whisk along with the fruit and whipped cream for 30 minutes. Next, whisk 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and 1 tablespoon of sugar together. Once stiff peaks start to form into the mixture, gently fold in 1.5 cups of fruit puree into the bowl. Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it back into the refrigerator until you are ready to serve it.

To add an extra layer of humor to the dish, you may want to consider placing a chocolate candy in the shape of a nose on top of each serving of fool and tell the kids that it’s a bowl full of monster snot. You can typically buy nose shaped candy molds and green candy melts through confectionary retailers.

Taco Fake Out

Want to really get your family’s imagination going? Tell them that you plan on serving tacos for dessert. The tacos are actually an ice cream treat that’s made with a brown sugar and honey shell. The shells get filled with chocolate ice cream so it will look like hamburger meat. Then the ice cream gets topped with shredded green coconut and whipped cream. The coconut is supposed to represent lettuce and the whipped cream is designed to resemble sour cream. I first learned about the dessert through the Taste of Home website. Complete instructions for making the tacos are still posted on the magazine’s website.

Laughable Lasagna

Are your kids and spouse fans of Italian food? Well then, you may want to consider whipping up a batch of funny lasagna. It is made with strawberry pudding, pound cake, strawberry puree, chocolate melts, whipped cream and shredded coconut. The size of your lasagna will determine how much of each item is needed. Regardless of the size, the assembly is the same

To construct your laughable lasagna, fill the bottom of a deep baking dish with slices of pound cake. Then add a layer of strawberry pudding, followed by layers of strawberry puree, whipped cream, chocolate melts and shredded coconut. The strawberry pudding and puree are supposed to represent the tomato sauce. The pound cake slices, on the other hand, will represent the noodles. The chocolate melts are designed to look like slices of sausage and the shredded coconut will serve as the mozzarella cheese. Keep adding layers until the dish is full. Just make sure that the final layer consists of pound cake topped with puree and coconut.
