Benefits of Working at Fashion Bug

Fashion Bug, New Clothes

Working in any retail store can either be fun or a drag. Luckily, Fashion Bug is a fun place to work. For women who love to shop and love new clothes, a job at Fashion Bug may be for you!

If you’ve worked in retail before, you should have no problem getting a job as a sales associate at Fashion Bug. Basically, your duties will include operating the cash register, cleaning up the fitting rooms and putting new stock out to sell to customers. My favorite part of working at Fashion Bug was putting new clothes out onto the racks. You’ll also be asked to fold tops that don’t go on hangers. Folding can be a pain, because it has to be done the right way so all of the folds look the same. This takes some practice to learn how to fold the right way.

Many of the clothes now have a security tag attached to the sleeve or bottom of the clothing. This prevents theft, and it pretty much impossible to remove by hand without ripping the clothing. These tags are removed at the register after purchase. One of your jobs when you put new clothes out will be to attach these tags to the clothing. It isn’t very hard, and once you get the hang of it, you’ll fly through the process.

Besides putting out new clothes, you’ll have to be a cashier too. It’s not as easy as many people think it is. As a cashier, you need to make sure you are ringing up items correctly, giving the correct change, and being friendly to the customer at the same time. At times, it may be frustrating, but your number one goal is to make the customer have a good shopping experience, especially at the register.

Of course, one of the main questions I was asked was “do you get a discount”? Yes, you do get a discount, and when I worked there, it was a 40% discount. This made up for the pay I was getting, which was only minimum wage. At that time, minimum wage was $5.15. Since then, minimum wage has gone up to $7.15, which isn’t too bad for even a part time job. The employee discount is only given to employees who have reached the end of their “probation” period, of usually 30-60 days.

After your probation period is over, you’ll also receive a set of keys, both for the fitting room and the cash register. You’ll wear these keys around your wrist and take them with you wherever you go in the store. You never know when somebody asks you to try something on, and nobody else is around to help.

I worked at Fashion Bug in the summer, so I don’t know what it’s like to work there in the holiday season. Just from shopping there at Christmas time, I know it gets busy. I did, however, work there during inventory. For inventory, the store closes and all of the employees get together to count the stuff in the store. You’ll get a little scanner gun that you’ll use to scan each tag on a certain rack. This is really a pain, because there’s so much that goes into it. You need to keep count of the tags you’ve scanned, and what racks you’ve scanned so far. There will be signs on the tops of each rack to keep track, but it’s still confusing. Good luck if you have to work during inventory time, or Christmas time!

Overall, Fashion Bug isn’t a bad place to work if you’re in need of a part time job, or even a full time job. I think this job would be fun for teenagers as a first job or after school job. I used to be a teenage girl too, and I know how much I loved going shopping for new clothes. I still do! If you’re looking for a job in retail, try Fashion Bug.
