Beauty Product Review: PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash

Acne Medications, Itchy Rash

PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash cost $9.99 for a 5.5 ounce tube. I normally wouldn’t spend that much money for an over the counter acne product without a recommendation, but I was desperate. I had a special event to attend in a few days and my skin had erupted with several blemishes over the weekend. Every one is self conscious about their skin when it is less than clear and healthy looking. I really didn’t want to spend time with relatives that I hadn’t seen in a while with embarrassing acne. Off I went to the checkout counter with my PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash with high hopes. Here is what I found.

PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash is a thick and creamy cleansing product. It really covers alot of skin with just a small amount. After wetting the skin, the product gets massaged for one to three minutes, then rinsed clean. Since only a small amount is needed, the price does not seem as daunting as I initially thought.

PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash contains the maximum amount of Benzoyl Peroxide allowed in an over the counter acne product, which is ten percent. The directions on the back of the packaging state that using this product more than once a day can cause excessive drying or skin irritation. The use of this product in conjunction with any other topical acne medications should be avoided. PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash should be used only one time per day and then if no adverse reactions occur, the user can gradually increase to two or three times per day as needed.

I began using PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash once per day on a Tuesday morning and was quite pleased by how my skin had improved by Thursday. On Friday, I used the product once in the morning and once at night. By Saturday morning, my skin had cleared considerably. Unfortunately, that second usage of the acne wash on Friday caused me to develop a red and itchy rash on my neck. It was quite annoying, but thankfully after applying some Aloe Vera gel to it, the discomfort and redness subsided.

I would absolutely recommend PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash to other acne sufferers, but only to be used moderately and when breakouts are more than the minor variety. PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash can also be used on other parts of the body such as the chest and back. For those using this product in those areas, I would use extra caution in how frequently this acne wash is applied. I imagine that a dry and itchy rash would be more uncomfortable in those areas that from what I experienced. I will use my PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash only when I need a little extra boost of acne treatment, rather than as part of my daily skin cleansing routine.
