Bars in Downtown Muncie, Indiana

Cheap Beer, Cheap Pizza, Muncie

Muncie…the home city of Ball State University, terrible pot-holes, and a great big inflatable Paul Bunyan esque guy that will automatically turn you into a rubber-necker if you pass it. It’s also the home city of three of the best bars in Indiana. Of course that’s just opinion, but I know it’s the truth deep down. I don’t even have to go anywhere else to know that this is the truth, even though I have been to quite a few bars in Indiana. Let’s start out with the obvious.

1. Heorot

The first question you ask when you walk into this bar is…”What the HECK do I even start?” A lot of people rank this as the best bar in Muncie just because of the diversity of beer they have. They have absolutely anything you can think of, from oatmeal stouts to porters, to pale ales, to India Pale Ales, to beers from Germany to Belgium to Scotland. If you want the beer, this bar pretty much guarantees to have it. Heorot is a very chill place to hang out.The décor is second to only the beer. Animal heads, dragons intertwining waiting for you to leave so he can gulp your beer down. Cheap pizza for 5 dollars, and it is delicious, just watch out for their jalapeno peppers: hottest stuff ever. Don’t come in here asking for a Bud Light though, if you want a bud light, go elsewhere. A little cramped on space, but over all an amazing bar. Definitely two thumbs up, and if I had any more I would give them more.

2. The Fickle Peach

I love the Peach. Not much is unique about this place to be honest. But it has that homey, bar feeling everybody knows, but just can’t put their finger on it. CHEAP beer, one dollar past blue ribbons, Bell’s is always on sale there (mostly Bell’s Oberon). Foozball, about five pool tables, an amazing selection of music. And the bartenders are always friendly. It’s definitely a place you want to go with friends, but even if you come alone you can enjoy a great night out in the town, work on your foozball game and enjoy a two hearted. Definitely one of my favorite bars, and I like it even more than the Heorot, even though it doesn’t have the beer list. The Fickle Peach has the atmosphere I enjoy, and the room. .

3. Savage’s Ale House

Hands down the best bar in Muncie. Has a better beer selection than the Peach, and is more roomy than Heorot. But what does it for me is the food, and Hamm’s. Can’t find Hamm’s anywhere anymore. But the food is affordable, and just absolutely phenomenal. I might just be saying this because when I eat there, I have about ten beers in me, but I’m pretty sure it would taste even better if I were sober. Amazing atmosphere, the location is great, and one cool guy as the bar owner. If you haven’t been to Savage’s Ale House, you MUST go. It doesn’t have the reputation Heorot has, but that’s just because it is brand new.

I love Muncie, and it’s just for the fact I have a few friends who live there, and these spectacular bars. If you ever come to Muncie, check these places out, have a Bell’s Two Hearted and maybe a Muncie Burger…you won’t regret the experience.
