Animal Abuse: We Must Stop It – Now!

Animal Cruelty, Animal Stories

Animals can be such a joy to have around. It is said that they can actually lower blood pressure, help people live longer and happier lives, and be an all-around enjoyment. Most animals actually become a member of the family, and people go to great lengths to take care of their pets.

So then why is it that almost every single day we hear of animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect cases? Animal abuse seems to be rampant in this country. According to [Pet-Abuse.Com] in 2006 there were 2706 cases of cruelty reported (no one knows how many were not reported). 2008 had 1795 cases reported; and as of February 14, 2009 there were already 102 cases reported. Way too many!

Just in Jefferson County Tennessee in less than six months two extreme cases were investigated and arrests made by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. On September 24, 2008 a man was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated animal cruelty and fifteen counts of animal cruelty. In this case dogs were found dead and still tied to trees, and the dogs that were alive had no food or water. Eight dead geese were also found. The Humane Society, sheriff’s deputies, and animal control officers removed dogs, cats, a cow, and goats from the man’s property. Just this year on January 15, 2009 a man was arrested and admitted that he had not checked on his horses since December 2008. Officers found one horse dead and several others without access to food, water, or shelter. In this case fourteen horses had to be removed from the property.

These are such sad situations. But it happens! What kind of “sick” person could do these kinds of things to a defenseless and helpless animal? If they do not want the animals then why do they get them in the first place? If they can not take care of them, they should take them to a shelter or give them to someone who can. But just to leave them to die is horrible and unacceptable. People should realize that God created animals also, therefore hurting an animal is hurting one of God’s creatures.

Everyone should do their part in helping to stop animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect. To find out more information go to Pet-Abuse.Com.
