AIM 6.1: The Next Generation of AOL Instant Messenger

Aol Instant Messenger, Ims, Msn Messenger

AIM 6.1 is the next generation of instant messaging software. This is basically directly from AIM’s website, but it really is the next generation of instant messaging software. As people highly complained about annoying errors and features that really didn’t work, the developers and makers of AOL Instant Messenger listened to all of the requests and fixed the problems that the last version of AIM had. Personally, I am still using the original version of AIM, but I do have the new one on my computer. It takes some time to get used to, plain and simple.

A few of the new features that can be found in AIM 6.1 are “Buddy Info Images”. This feature allows a user to add an image to their buddy list, which will show up on their friends buddy lists for them to see. Pictures are a great way to show your personality, so using one isn’t such a bad idea. Now, you may change the color of your buddy list window as many times as you’d like. There are nine different colors from which you can choose from.

A feature that AOL (America Online) has used in the past is now available in the MOST recent version of AIM only. If you are offline and you feel like people are trying to get in touch with you then activate the “Offline IMs” feature, which will allow you to receive IMs while you are offline.

With all of these new features comes the problem of bugs and such, but surprisingly AIM has stuck to their word. There really isn’t that many bugs to worry about with the new features of AIM 6.1. One thing I really like with AIM 6.1 is the “PC to PC Chat” feature, which allows users of AIM 6.1 to chat via voice to another member using AIM 6.1. I find the sound quality to very good, even as good as MSN Messenger, which is a rival messenger to AIM. If you are tired of typing, you can activate this service.

People have been used to regular profiles for other people and their friends to look at. As a matter of fact, this is one of the more popular things about AIM, but what could the developers do to make this feature even better? “AIM Pages” brings the profile experience to another level as you can add a lot more information about yourself.

Basically, AIM will add some questions about yourself which you will be allowed to answer. Unlike your regular profile page, you can add pictures, videos, music, and much more. You can add your friends and family to your list, who can then check out your page as you update it. You may invite other people who have AIM 6.1 to make a page just like you.

As I continue to use the original version of AIM, I will probably evolve over to the new version very shortly. I enjoy AIM a lot and highly recommend it to anyone interested in communicating with their friends and family. You can download the software here at http://www.aim.com/.
