A Review of Iman’s Second to None Luminous Foundation

Iman, Powder Foundation

I was a fan of Iman’s Second to None Cream to Powder Foundation when I bought a compact of it last year at Target. I thought the foundation was great because it matched my skin tone perfectly and made it look flawless. This was something that I’d never achieved with drugstore foundations before since I’m African American, and finding the perfect shade of foundation is really difficult.

Iman’s Cream to Powder Foundation was great for creating a matte and natural look which I think looks great in the fall. But for the spring and summer and even in the winter months I like my skin to look more radiant. So I bought a case of Iman’s Second to None Luminous Foundation at a Walgreen’s for $11.99, which gives skin a glowing look rather than a matte one.

It comes in the same exact black and gold box as the Cream to Powder Foundation, so I had to double check that I was getting the right one. The Iman Second to None Luminous Foundation comes in a slightly wider but sleeker looking black compact. It has a gigantic mirror inside and even though both of the foundations I own are the same Clay 1 shade, the Luminous foundation looks about one shade lighter than the Cream to Powder kind, and it has a more golden and powdery texture to it.

When I applied the Luminous Foundation to my skin, it matched my skin just as well as my older Iman foundation did, so much so that I didn’t know where it began and my skin ended. For more coverage and to really glow Iman’s Luminous Foundation can be applied with a wet sponge. I like to apply it this way because my skin is dry in the morning and it’s quicker and easier to blend.

After applying it to my face my skin does look luminous, but also natural because the shimmer in this stuff is super fine. My skin looks great with this foundation and I think it’s perfect for summer because it makes my skin look dewy.

One of the things I don’t like about the Iman Second to None Luminous Foundation are the ingredients. There are a lot of chemicals present in this foundation including 3 different parabens.

And on a more superficial note, this foundation really doesn’t cover dark circles or blemishes well because it creates such a sheer finish. So I always wind up using my Cream to Powder foundation as a concealer first.

From a purely cosmetic standpoint this foundation deserves a 5 out 5 stars. This will give even the most dull girl glowing skin without breaking the bank, and there are plenty of shades for women of color to choose from which is hard to find in a drugstore.
