A Poem Based on the Book “Night” Written by Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel

What can we expect?
What can we learn?
When there’s no choice,
To whom do we turn?

I am no longer a person,
But yet a slave.
When all Hell broke loose,
The only fear I had was my grave.

I’m crammed in a train,
And my valuables are taken,
Wondering what’s going on,
On our way to the prison.

Thirsty and hungry,
Sad and cold.
This is what life was like,
For the young and for the old.

We all marched,
And we all did fight.
We were all tortured,
But what do you expect from an Anti-Semite?

He was the only one left in my life,
And as I began to cry,
The worst thing ever, struck.
My father began to die.

Hoping that God could here my prayers,
Open and wide,
Yitgadal Veyitkadach Shmé Raba,
May his name be blessed and magnified.
