A Look at Fraternities Offered at the UW of Madison

If you are going to attend the University of Madison in Wisconsin, make sure you check out some of the fraternities that they have to offer. The UW offers 29 of them to choose from. Men can find lasting friendships and you get to meet new people. It is a great way to get out and have some fun. Plus you get a chance to do good things for the community and charities.

Acacia strives on making the most of their college years. They work together and help each other through anything that they need. They are also big into helping out in the local community by volunteering. They also throw parties and formals so that they can kick back and have some fun.

Omega Psi Phi is from the Greek phrase that means “friendship is essential to the soul.” Reverand Jesse Jackson was a member of this fraternity along with people like Shaquille O’Neil and Bill Cosby. They base themselves on friendship, scholarship and loyalty.

The Phi Beta Sigma has been around since 1914. This group stays involved throughout the community by volunteering and throwing charity events. It is for African American students only.

Sigma Pi has one of the most beautiful houses in Madison. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and has six different stories to it. The members are leaders in the community and the UW. Their main charity is Service for Light. They host numerous events yearly to raise money for places like the American Red Cross and other charities.

The Theta Delta Chi was founded in 1847 and is the eleventh oldest fraternity. They are involved in a lot of events at the UW like Homecoming, sports events, and fund raisers. A lot of their charity money goes to Cancer research. They look for their members to be fun and active and those who want to make the most out of their college careers.

The Zeta Beta Tau has 110,000 brothers at 80 different Campuses in North America. They are a close group of brothers. The charity they raise money for is Cystic Fibrosis. They annually do the Great Strides Walk to raise money for this charity. They also encourage their members to uphold a higher grade point average.

Pi Lambda Phi focuses on eliminating prejudice in the world today. They were founded in 1896 and are devoted to having fun. They work hard and play hard. The group consists of men from all different races and religions.

Sigma Phi Epsilon put in over 1000 hours of community service per semester. There main charity is the UW Children’s Hospital. They also give out scholarships to there brothers that they think deserve it. They tutor others in their group to make sure that they maintain a high GPA average.

The Lodge Chi Psi is a fraternity that is not your typical fraternity. They look for men that have passion and drive. They want their members to treat others with respect and who can work as a team.

Delta Upsilon is the only fraternity that practices non-secrecy. This means that anyone can attend their chapter meetings to see what is going on. Their house sits on Lake Mendota. The group is based on close friendships and promotes the advancement of justice. Their main charity is St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. They also have one of the highest GPAs for a fraternity on campus.

The Alpha Gamma Rho also has a house that is located on Lake Mendota. They are a social and professional fraternity that gets involved with events on campus. They believe in having strong bonds with their brothers both in and out of school. They put together charity events like golf tournaments. The proceeds go to funding the research of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Triangle is known for turning their house into a haunted house every year during Halloween for charity. The proceeds go to the Briar Patch, which is a local shelter for teens. They only allow students that are going for engineering or science majors. They also give out scholarships to their members that they feel deserve it.
