Music Review: Switchfoot – the Best Yet

Greatest Hits

Switchfoot is one of the most influential Rock bands of recent times, and their recently released greatest hits album, The Best Yet, certainly encapsulates that fact. The album is simply an awesome listen, and features their best songs that have made a significant impact on listeners from all around the United States and the World. Their rock-centered sound is a pleasant, mellowed-out listening experience that will undoubtedly have a major impact on anyone who listens.

The album avoids one of the most common mistakes that many greatest hits albums make: every song on the album is different, helping to emphasize Switchfoot’s musical talents and overall creativity. For listeners who have only heard Switchfoot’s most successful tracks, such as “Dare You To Move” and “Meant To Live,” they will be pleasantly surprised at the musical diversity found on this album. Every song on this album seems to have it’s own personality and has the ability to invoke different emotions in the listener every time.

“This Is Home” is a really soft, piano-induced album cut that, in my opinion, may be the best song on the album. Formerly cut just for a Disney production, it is a steady rock version that is one of the best singles I have personally heard in a while.

This album is a great listen, and something that will make any open-minded music lover very happy. A deluxe version of the CD is also available for any die hard fans, or those who want more Switchfoot. The deluxe version comes with an additional DVD.

As stated before, there is little repetition on this album. However, this album may not be for diehard, from-the-beginning fans of the band. For those who are looking to explore a new band, or just get immersed in the pleasant sounds from Switchfoot, this album is a great investment.
