Burt’s Bees Carrot Creme – Review

burt's bees

I just celebrated my 52 birthday, and a long time friend of mine gave me the greatest gift ever, a new supply of Burt’s Bees Nutritive Day Carrot Creme. I turned her on to the Burt’s Bees line years ago, and now she always gets me one of their products on my birthday to show her appreciation!

Product Description

This creme comes in a 2 ounce glass jar, with a metal screw on lid. The opening is wide enough that I can easily dip my finger into the product without any hassles. The creme is a light orange/tan color, and it is very thick, more of a butter than a creme.

There is a nice smell to this Burt’s Bees creme that I really love. I have allergies, and cannot tolerate flowery scents at all. This creme has a natural, earthy scent – and it even smells a little bit sweet (if “sweet” has a smell!).

Ingredients

Water, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, beeswax, glycerin, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, stearic acid, palmetic acid, daucus carota sativa (carrot) seed oil, fragrance, tocopheryl acetate, tritium vulgare (wheat) germ oil, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, glucose, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel wax, sucrose stearate, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, glucose oxidase, lactoperoxidase, beta-carotene, vegetable oil, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, sodium borate, xanthan gum.

My Thoughts

This carrot creme is super rich, and a little bit on the tip of my finger goes a long way. I don’t use it all over my face, but I do apply it to the laugh lines next to my eyes. At my age, these lines are getting more pronounced every year, and I need all the help I can get.

Although the product has an orange/tan color, I don’t find that it leaves any color on my skin, and so far it has not stained any of my clothing items. It pretty much goes on clear. It is very rich and greasy, and I wasn’t sure I would care for this when I first started using it, but it eventually does absorb into my skin. Once it’s applied, the scent does fade, so it’s not lingering with me for very long.

The featured ingredient is carrot seed oil, and the Burt’s Bees website claims that this ingredient is believed to stimulate the turnover of the skins cells, in a natural manner. Carrots also contain an ingredient called beta-carotene which is a great nourisher for the skin. The avocado and almond oils are added moisturizers, and aloe vera is used to soothe and for hydrating. Burt’s Bees recommends this creme for people who spend a lot of time in the sun.

This creme does help diminish my laugh lines, but I gave a sample sized jar (that came in a sampler kit) to a friend who has diabetes. I read that carrot seed oil is good for inflammation, and my friend has sores all over his hands, and has not been able to find any products that will help heal them. He’s tried it all, but he said that Burt’s Bees worked the best so far. If it will help his skin, that speaks volumes about this product.

Burt’s Bees is known for making super quality, all natural products for the body, and this carrot creme is actually 97.67% natural. I feel better about using a lotion or creme that isn’t full of the cheaper petro chemical and petroleum based ingredients. I don’t think they are safe, and I think they tend to clog the pores. I have used many Burt’s Bees products in the past, and have been pleased with all of them. I never experience any breakouts or rashes, and my skin is ultra sensitive. Some cremes actually leave my face red, but I am glad to report no issues with the Carrot Creme. It’s a quality product all the way around.

The 2 ounce jar retails for $12.00, and can be found in health food stores. Our local Fred Meyer store has a natural foods section in their store, and they carry a large line of Burt’s Bees products.
