7 Makeup Tips for Hazel Eyes

Blue Eye Shadow, Colored Mascara, Eye Color

For years, I was in hazel eye denial. At the DMV, I declared my hazel eyes as green because I believed my hazel peepers were inferior. To be fair, at 16 we think everything about us is inferior. I think it all started when a boyfriend looked deep in to my eyes during an intimate moment and said, “I love your blue eyes.” Well the truth is hazel eyes are sexy and like the mood rings of the 70s, they can change with your emotions.

These seven makeup tips for hazel eyes will help you bring out whatever color you choose to express. How fun expressing yourself with makeup!

Eyeliner Colors

Black is the go to eyeliner color for many women but to bring out the flecks of color in hazel eyes experiment with different colors. To make eyes look more blue, use eggplant or a deep purple eyeliner. To get a greener look, try taupe or a mahogany brown. Use white eyeliner on the lower eye rim to brighten your hazel eye.

Eye Shadows

Eye shadow shades are a hazel-eyed woman’s best friend. Different shades will make you look demure or slinky. For understated drama, go over the entire lid with a natural skin tone shade. Use vibrant purple, blue or a shimmery gold as the crease accent color to make your eyes pop. Blue-gray eyeshadow is the least complimentary for hazel eyes but that doesn’t mean you can’t try blues.

Complementary Lip Colors

Your lips should never overpower those gorgeous eyes but sometimes lips need love too. Glide a gold or shimmery copper color over your lips to bring out the brown in your eyes. Accentuate purple and blue eye shadow shades with berry or mauve lip colors. When your hazel eyes are playing up the green tones, wear coral, pink or nude shades of lipstick.

Highlighting Around the Eyes

You’ve seen highlighting over done-think Kim Kardashian. We love you Kim but ugh! This highlighting abuse does not have to occur. Use highlighting powder under and around your eyes to draw attention to your hazel peepers. Brush it on sparingly to draw attention to your unusual eye color.

Treat Your Lashes

Grabbing that thick-brushed black mascara is kind of a no-brainer but there is some variety available. I know we love black mascara but try deep brown or purple mascara too. You’ll get loads of attention and bring out the colors in your unusual eye color. Curl up the lashes first with an eyelash curler. I love my heated lash curler-it’s kind of a treat to use. Sweep on colored mascara first touching the tips then filling in the base. For fun, apply black to the top lashes and purple on the bottom.

Bronzer

Bronze tones in your skin can catch the brilliant colors of your hazel eyes. If you weren’t born with lovely bronze skin use a bronzer. Sweep the bronzer across your forehead, nose and cheekbones. A light dusting will really complement a gold or metallic eye color.

Wear the Right Clothing

Okay, we cheated. This last tip for hazel eyes isn’t about makeup. It’s all about the clothes baby. Have you ever noticed that wearing a forest green shirt makes your hazel eyes appear a deep green? Like your eyelids, the color clothing you wear can influence your eye color. Color coordinate your clothing with your eyeshadow to sway your eye tones. Have fun using accessories like scarves and jewelry to make your beautiful eyes look lovely.
