7 Fun Things to Do with Your Kids in November

Food Drive, Kids Events, Pottery Barn Kids, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Although I’m not a fan of having it get dark before 5:00 p.m., November is still one of my favorite months. The beaches are less crowded. The pumpkin patch is still open. Flu season hasn’t typically peaked yet. Of course, let’s not forget that November kicks off the holiday season with all of its delicious smells, comfort food and festive activities. Here are 7 fun things to do with your kids in November.

Pottery Barn Kids Events

Pottery Barn Kids always has plenty of fun and educational events. On November 10, 2012 from 10 a.m. till noon, they will host an event where kids make a nameplate using LEGO bricks. This free event is for kids ages four to twelve. On Nov. 17, PBK will have a special doll tea party. Your $10 donation goes to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. There will be refreshments, stories and crafts. You must RSVP to go to this event. Go to the store locator to see if a PBK is in your area.

Canned Food Drive

While many of us are already thinking of what our Thanksgiving menu will be, there are others who are wondering if they will eat at all this Thanksgiving. This is why you and your children can organize a canned food drive in your neighborhood. The kids can help decorate the box and put up fliers asking for donations. At the end of the drive, take the food to a local pantry or church.

Celebrate Veterans Day

Nov. 11 is a day to appreciate the men and women who served our country. You can make a patriotic breakfast of waffles with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream. Then, make some homemade cards for our veterans.

Family Game Night

The third week in November is “game and puzzle week.” Thus, pull out some of your families’ favorite games and have a game night. You can also bring out a puzzle to work on together.

Take a Hike

Nov. 17 is “Take a Hike Day.” In Southern California, November is my favorite month to take a hike. Find a great place to hike at tripleblaze.com . On your hike, you can invite children to look for leaves, birds and little critters. If there is snow fall in your area, you can go sledding instead.

Pumpkin Desserts

Some canned pumpkin can be added to cake or muffin mix for a delicious and healthy boost to a regular dessert. You can also break out the pumpkin cookie cutter for shaped sugar cookies. These desserts are great for Thanksgiving or any other day in November.

Get Crafty

Leaves, pumpkins and fall colors provide plenty of fun craft inspiration. Michaels has plenty of craft ideas like making a fall scrapbook page, a turkey craft or pilgrim portraits. You can also take your kids over to Lowes for their Build and Grow clinics. On November 17, 2012, they will be making a North Sleigh.

Have Fun!
