I worked at Gap for three years during college and it was a fantastic job to have as a student who needed flexible hours. They also offer their employees a mad discount and my closet was always fully stocked with the latest trends and great jeans. These Gap confessions are all secrets from a former Gap Girl herself and must knows for any avid shoppers of the brand. (These were the policies in effect when I worked there from 2004-2007.)
Gap Secret Number 1: Price Adjustment.
Have you ever purchased something at your favorite store only to see it go on sale a week later? You might consider bringing back your item to return and rebuy it but eh, that’s too much of a hassle. Chances are you already washed and wore the clothing anyways. So you sigh and just accept defeat and think oh well, maybe next time you’ll get lucky with low prices. Well at Gap, if you see something you bought go on sale within two weeks of being purchased they do what is called a price adjustment. You don’t even need to have the article of clothing with you, just save your receipt. Gap scans it and gives you the difference.
Gap Secret Number 2: They WILL find it.
If you are ever at The Gap and spot an item you simply must have but can’t find on the sales floor, ask a sales associate. The registers are updated nightly and they can check to see if their is any stock in the back. If it’s not in the back, they can also check other stores in the same city and do a merchandise check in which the item will be held for you at another location. If it is simply no where to be found, they call the Gap warehouse and you pay for the item in store but have it shipped to your home. It’s been rare for me not to hunt down and find a must have item for a patient customer.
Gap Secret Number 3: Wash and Wear Policy.
If you find a pair of jeans you are in love with but when you wash and wear them they don’t fit quite the same, bring them back! Gap has a wash and wear policy and if you wash them and bring them back within 14 days they give you back the full amount you paid for them. Pretty good deal considering their jeans can run a bit expensive sometimes.
Gap Secret Number 4: Buy Online, Return in Store.
Referring back to secret #2 if in that really odd instance no one had the must have you wanted so badly you can get it online. If you receive it and maybe you’ve changed your mind or it doesn’t fit quite right, just bring it back and return it. You don’t have to repackage it and resend it. Same thing if you shop at Gaps sister stores Old Navy and Banana Republic. You can return anything you purchase online to receive your full refund in person.
Gap Secret Number 5: They’ll Ship it.
During Christmas shopping is when Gap ships out the most orders but they also do it year round. If you are shopping for nieces, nephews, or friends who live out of town you can purchase it at Gap and they box it and ship it out for you for only $5.00 if it’s UPS ground, the price goes up if you wanted it expedited through Fed Ex. Saves you the trip to the post office!
