4 Events in Spartanburg and Greer, SC that Promises to Bring Fun to Your Summer

Summer fun outside, there is nothing like it! This is a guide to fun events and festivals in Spartanburg County and Greer, SC you can enjoy with your family and friends! So get outside this summer and make some wonderful memories!

#1 -Greer Freedom Blast (sponsored by the Greenville Hospital System) in Greer, SC

Greer’s Freedom Blast is an annual event held at Greer City Park. Greer’s Freedom Blast will be held on June, 30, 2012, from 5 pm and will continue until 10 pm when it will end with a huge fireworks display. I have attended Greer Freedom Blast for several years and love it! For parking details and more detailed information, check out the highlighted link above.

Expect ample food vendors, beverages, activities, crafts, and nine inflatables which the kids love returns this year for the cost of $5 per child. The popular Greer Idol Teen competition begins on stage at 5 pm. At 6 pm, contestants will compete and winners selected that will advance to the next level. They will compete each week following at Tunes on Trade, another weekly music event.

The entertainment continues with a pie-eating contest at 7:15 pm and an Upstate local band, “Winnie Waters and Groove Planet” will provide great jazz, soul, and blues music. For complete details about the Greer Freedom Blast, visit the official website for the event at http://www.cityofgreer.org.

#2- Red, White & Boom at Barnet Park in Spartanburg, SC (Admission is $5)

Red, White & Boom is Spartanburg’s official Independence Day celebration and it will be held on Wednesday, July 4th at Barnet Park beginning at 6 pm and concluding with a huge firework display starting at 9:45 pm. The Spartanburg Community Band will provide the entertainment for the evening. Plan to come be entertained and enjoy some great food and drinks on sale inside the park. Remember to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and your camera to capture the fun and the fireworks! General admission for Red, White, & Boom is $5.00. #3-Free Movies at Barnet Park in Spartanburg, SC

Would your family like to sit outside on a beautiful summer evening and enjoy free popcorn and sodas and watch a FREE movie? Who wouldn’t like that? Movies are shown monthly at Barnet Park (see link in #2). For five years this community wide event has been organized by Hub City Church. Bring your family, a blanket and/or chairs to sit on to be comfortable, and enjoy the evenings! For a schedule of up and coming movies to be shown, click on Movies @ Barnet Park for details! Movies generally start at sundown which is usually between 8:30 and 9:00 pm. This is not a church event, but a community wide event for all ages! There is ample parking in parking garages and parking lots surrounding the park.

#4 -Free Weekly Music on Main Street at Denny’s Plaza in Spartanburg, SC

Each Thursday night from April through August, starting at 6 pm and ending at 9 pm, there is a great band filling the summer evening with music from Jazz, Blues, Southern Rock, Country, Bluegrass and more, depending on the band playing. There is food, beverages, and beer to be purchased on site. No admission fees are charged for this event. I am there every Thursday that I am able and enjoy it thoroughly, so I can personally recommend this event! For the schedule of bands coming up click here: Music on Main.
