There are too many times in life when a good and enjoyable moment turns into a complete disaster. After going to get my first pedicure, I realized there were a couple of things I could have done differently that would have made the entire experience a whole lot better. Here I have listed a few steps you can take to ensure that your first pedicure doesn’t turn into one of these disasters.
Going to a Bad Nail Salon
Just like with any place you walk into, you’ll want to make sure that the nail salon of your choice is worth the money you’re paying. Since many places tend to be accepting walk-ins nowadays, you will want to make a phone call before getting yourself into something you have no way of getting out of. Chances are you will need to find out their prices for the type of pedicure you’re getting beforehand anyways. Calling first will give you the chance to speak with one of the workers there. If you can’t understand him or her, then your visit might not be as pleasant of an experience as you had hoped it would be.
When I called to ask for the price of my pedicure, I could barely understand the person I was talking to on the other end. Unfortunately, I overlooked it for the time being and decided to set up an appointment with them anyways.
Well, I can say that when I got there, I didn’t know what to expect for this procedure and the workers’ ability to speak merely one or two words in English didn’t help me much either. Once I figured out what kind of nail polish I wanted, I sat down and stuck my feet in the water. During my pedicure, I was barked at several times to switch my feet and I seemed to be more of a chore than a customer for them. Finally, when I had finished, the lady who had worked on my feet pointed out to some place in midair and it took me a while to figure out where she wanted me to go. Once I did, I went over to the table and sat down. I sat there looking stupid for several minutes until a lady who had finished after me got up and left on her own. Only then did I realize that my pedicure was done and that the reason for sitting here was to let the nail polish dry. Boy, did I feel dumb!
Wearing Shorts or Skirts
Another way of making your trip to the nail salon a memorable one is by taking into consideration the clothes that you’ll be wearing. For example, you would be better off throwing on some loose fitting pants as opposed to putting on some shorts or a miniskirt. Obviously, the person giving you the pedicure will be in a position lower than knee level where parts of you that you don’t want showing may easily be seen so you’ll want to cover up. Remember not to make the mistake of going in clothing like this or the whole relaxing aspect of the experience could be completely reversed.
Wearing Tennis Shoes
Deciding on how to appropriately dress your feet for the occasion is probably the most important aspect for getting a pedicure because it will be the main factor in determining whether it has been a success or not. Wearing tennis shoes is the biggest mistake you can make when going to get your first pedicure. Instead, slide on a pair of loose sandal flip-flops made especially for getting pedicures and you should be good to go!
Failing To Bring Your Own Entertainment Devices
A big mistake I made was not bringing anything to do. The whole process took an hour at the very least and I was encouraged to read their magazines. At first, I found it to be quite a relief because it would be much less awkward than just sitting there staring at my feet. However, as I glanced through the pages, I found them all to be extremely dull and utterly distasteful. When I finished going through one of the magazines, I picked up another one only to find the same article and picture from the last one. It didn’t take long at all before they started driving me crazy. So, whether you decide to choose your phone or your iPod, bring some form of entertainment with you to save you from the sensuality and superficiality of these types of magazines. It will save you a lot of headache.
