Shelby Miller – SP – St Louis Cardinals
As a 1st round draft pick in the 2009 MLB draft for the St Louis Cardinals, Miller has carried high expectations with him over the past several years. Making his much anticipated major league debut to finish out the 2012 season, Miller excelled during his brief time on the mound. Possessing excellent strikeout ability, and an entire full season of pitching at Triple A in 2012 under his belt, Miller will have a tremendous opportunity to win a starting spot in the Cardinals rotation in 2013.
Jacob Turner – SP – Miami Marlins
Entering the 2012 season as the Detroit Tigers top starting pitching prospect, Turner flopped mightily during his opportunities to showcase his ability on the mound with the Tigers at the major league level. With a growing impatience, the Tigers traded Turner to the Miami Marlins midway through the 2012 season. This switch from the American League to the National League seemingly did wonders for Turner, as he tallied a very respectable 3.38 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 42 innings pitched with the Marlins. This new change of scenery could finally have Turner starting to realize his potential during the 2013 season.
Julio Teheran – SP – Atlanta Braves
Once a very highly regarded pitching prospect, Teheran posted a very disappointing season at Triple A in 2012. With his shine a bit tarnished in fantasy baseball owners minds entering the 2013 season, Teheran will have an opportunity to claim a starting spot in the Braves rotation to begin the season, and could easily reemerge as one of the top rookie pitchers in the majors in 2013.
Wily Peralta – SP – Milwaukee Brewers
Making steady progress through the Brewers minor league system since 2008, Peralta stumbled a bit during the 2012 season at Triple A. However Peralta still earned a call up and made his major league debut with the Brewers during the second half of the 2012 season. Posting a solid 2.48 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 29 innings pitched, Peralta showed plenty of promise to make a significant contribution in the Brewers starting rotation. At age 23 and with plenty of minor league experience, Peralta will have an opportunity to claim a starting spot in the Brewers rotation in 2013.
