2010 Super Bowl Predictions and Picks

Manning, Peyton Manning, Super Bowls

It’s time for my 2010 Super Bowl predictions and picks. Who will win the 2010 Super Bowl between Indianapolis and New Orleans? It’s not an easy prediction this season considering the two best teams in football finally made it there. Both the Saints and Colts were undefeated for a long stretch of the regular season this year.
Neither finished strong but both are back to form in the playoffs.

The Colts caught a bit of a breather in the AFC Title game when the Jets upset the Chargers in my opinion. The Saints faced a very tough Minnesota team that might have made it to the Super Bowl any other year or with just a few lucky bounces. What are my 2010 Super Bowl predictions?

The Indianapolis Colts will win it all in Miami. Why will the Colts be champions of the NFL? Experience is on the Colts side. Not only did they win a Super Bowl before but they went through the same routine in Miami.
Granted many of those players are not around anymore but several key players like Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney and Kelvin Hayden were on that team. This Colts team might in fact be even better than the one that beat the Chicago Bears on a rainy night in Miami. Peyton Manning has made Pierre Garcon and Dallas Clark all pro weapons on the offensive side of the ball.

What is my other biggest factor as to why my predictions say the Colts win will the Super Bowl in 2010? The Colts defense is the X factor. Many people make the mistake of overlooking what has been a very cohesive bunch on defense. Dwight Freeney is one of the best and he is surrounded by so many talented players you might lose count. The Saints defense is good at takeaways but doesn’t really know how to slow an offense like Indianapolis down unless it gets turnovers. Peyton Manning won’t be sloppy in a clutch game. His experience will dictate that and he’s no longer the kid who made bad decisions consistently. Peyton Manning is the absolute best quarterback in the game and a win in Miami in the Super Bowl in 2010 could guarantee his legend continues to grow.

My 2010 Super Bowl predictions and picks say that Indianapolis will win 37-23. I think Drew Brees will be able to put up some terrific offensive numbers but in the end the Colts will just outscore the Saints. The Colts will benefit from several huge turnovers in the first half and build an early lead. Peyton Manning will toss 3 touchdown passes and just one interception on his way to another Most Valuable Player performance. Drew Brees will have 2 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions in the contest.

Joseph Addai will have a strong game with 80-90 yards and one more score for the Colts. Reggie Bush will have a few decent plays but I look for the Colts to keep him under wraps most of the game. The Colts defense has speed and speed kills. Reggie Wayne will be back to form with 100 yards or more receiving and at least one touchdown in the Super Bowl. Dallas Clark will also catch one of the touchdown passes from Peyton Manning if my predictions and picks for the 2010 Super Bowl are correct.

Is there a scenario where my predictions could change for Super Bowl 2010 and lean toward New Orleans? The Saints are red hot and their confidence has to be mile high after beating the Vikings. Still, New Orleans has to be wondering just how much their defense was exposed in a win over Minnesota. Brett Favre illuminated quite a few holes in the secondary and expect Peyton Manning to do the same. The Colts won’t allow Peyton to get roughed up quite as much as Minnesota allowed Favre to get hit. Peyton Manning is the franchise and the Colts offensive line is very well aware of keeping him protected. The Jets did a good job early on putting licks on Peyton Manning but adjustments made it difficult later in the game to even get in his vicinity. The Saints have to be concerned over winning a game in overtime after creating so many turnovers. The total yardage in the game would indicate that Minnesota was the superior team. The Saints, to their credit, somehow managed to overcome that by creating mistakes and loose balls. Don’t expect the Colts to give up anything that easy. If the turnover margin is close then the Colts should win by 10 or more because of basic execution on offense. Indianapolis is relentless on offense and slowing Peyton Manning down for a complete four quarters is next to impossible once they begin to click.
Drew Brees won’t be easy to stop either but keep an eye on the adjustments the Colts defense makes throughout the game. The Colts defense will own the third quarter in Miami if my 2010 Super Bowl predictions are correct.

The Saints will have to outscore the Colts in my opinion to win the 2010 Super Bowl. My best guess is that’s not going to happen. The Colts defense will be the difference. COLTS 37 SAINTS 23.
