Dog Themed Birthday Party Cakes and Food

Every party needs a great birthday cake. Luckily, it is easy to make a great looking cake for a dog themed birthday party even if you aren’t great at making cakes. A dog bone birthday cake can easily be made with an ordinary rectangular cake pan and a couple of round cake pans. Simply make a regular rectangular cake, then make four round cakes, and piece them together with two round cakes at each end of the rectangle cake. You may have to shave off a bit from the sides of the round cakes to make the bone cake fit together just right. Frost your creation with white or chocolate frosting, and you have a dog bone cake! You can also use a heart-shaped cake pan to make the ends of the dog bone if you have one available.

An even easier cake for your dog themed birthday party is a paw print cake. For this cake, simply make a round cake and four cupcakes, and arrange them to look like a paw print. If you need more cake for your party, simply make another paw print, or offer cupcakes.

For snacks, consider making “dog bowls” with each child’s name, and filling them with party mix or some other “dog treat.” Dog bone shaped cookies are also easy to make and a big hit at dog themed birthday parties.

Even if you have no artistic ability, just about anyone can make a dog bone or paw print. Fortunately, you can make great decorations for your dog themed birthday party simply by cutting out these shapes and hanging them around the party area.

For big birthday fun, consider making a dog house for your party. Kids love to play with boxes, and it’s easy to make a dog house out of a large box. If you can’t get a box big enough to make a dog house kids can actually play in, consider making a smaller one and using it as a decoration.

Send all of your guests home with a “doggy bag” filled with treats. Cheap, brightly colored lunch-type sacks are available at most discount stores, and they are usually very inexpensive. Write the child’s name and draw a paw print on the bag, and consider filling it with a ball, a child’s “squeaky toy,” a bag of “dog treats” (candy, snacks, placed in a sandwich bag labeled “dog treats”), stickers, or other inexpensive dog themed items. In the spring and summer months, discount and dollar stores typically sell frisbees for as little as $1 each, and they would make a nice addition to your doggy bag.

For entertainment, consider “pin the tail on the doggy,” playing frisbee outside, or having a “dog
race. Children could also play catch. Divide the guests into teams and have one person from each team designated to throw the ball. Have the rest of the guests line up at a distance from the pitcher.
