Symptoms of a Sluggish Lymphatic System

Few people think about the role the lymphatic system plays inthebody’s immunity. The lymphatic system is a large vessel system that includes lymph nodes throughout the body, which carry impurities from nearly every cell in the body, and is responsible forremoving cellular toxins, and preventing disease. There is even more lymph fluid in the body than blood.

If your lymphatic system is bogged down and sluggish, your body will have difficulty fighting infections and all of your systems will not function optimally. It’s important to learn both the symptoms of a sluggish lymphatic system, and ways to cleanse the lymphatic system, so your body can run at peak performance.

Symptoms of a Sluggish Lymphatic System

Many things can clog up your lymphatic system, such as certain foods (large quantities of dairy, for instance), illnesses and viruses, pesticides, smoking, a lowered immune system, medications, and dehydration. Here are some of the most frequent symptoms of a sluggish lymphatic system:

* inability to fight infections and illnesses, or reoccurent infections and illnesses

* lingering fatigue that does not improve with proper sleep and rest

* persistant swollen lymph nodes ( also note that persistant swollen lymph nodes can also be indicative of serious illnesses like lymphoma, leukemia, or auto-immune disorders, so don’t be hesitant to visit a doctor for this symptom to be safe)

* a swollen spleen- the spleen is located underneath the left ribcage, so if you notice some swelling, or discomfort here, a swollen spleen could be to blame

* tonsil stones ( although there is no definitive evidence that tonsil stones are indicative of a sluggish lymphatic system, but as a sufferer of tonsil stones, I can attest that you share many of the same symptoms of a sluggish lymphatic system, and lymphatic cleansing helps to eliminate tonsil stones)

* poor circulation

* itching on the body that is not related to a skin condition, or dry skin

* excessive perspiration

* high systolic blood pressure

* allergies and sinusitis

Methods to Cleanse the Lymphatic System

There are several ways to unclog a congested lymphatic system. Keep in mind that lymph fluid has nothing to pump it through the body, like the heart pumps blood throughout the body, so the lymphatic system relies on activity and muscle contraction to pump lymph fluid through the body. The best way to cleanse the lymphatic system is through physical activities such as:

* brisk walking
* yoga
* dance
* rebounding

Rebounding (jumping on a mini trampoline) has been proven to be an effective way to move lymph fluid through the body.

Other ways to cleanse the lymphatic system include:

* deep tissue massage

* plenty of water, as dehydration is a major cause of a sluggish lymphatic system

* cleanse other major systems- the kidneys, colon, and liver

Lowering the toxin levels in other orgrans will reduce the work load on the lymphatic system, enabling it to rest and optimize itself.

The best way to understand the lymphatic system is to view the lymphatic systemas the body’s trash can. The lymphatic system is responsible for carrying away all of the junk- toxins, bacteria, viruses, and dead cells, so it gets clogged-up easily. It is important to keep the lymphatic system operating at top speed, so your body will have a strong immune system to fight sickness, and keep you well.
